China’s Level of Green Agricultural Development Continues to Improve — Report

Beijing, July 19 /Xinhua/ — The level of green development in China’s agriculture continued to improve in 2025, according to the China Agricultural Green Development Report 2025, published on Saturday by the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences (CAAS) and the Chinese Society for the Study of Green Agricultural Development.

According to the report, China has made steady progress in water conservation in agriculture. By the end of 2025, the area of integrated irrigation and fertilization technologies applied to grain and oilseed crops across the country exceeded 5.86 million hectares. Over the past decade, annual water consumption in China’s agriculture has decreased by 5.7 percent.

The situation in improving efficiency through the scientific application of fertilizers and pesticides, as well as in the comprehensive utilization of agricultural straw, continues to improve. In 2025, the fertilizer use efficiency coefficient for the three main grain crops – rice, wheat, and corn – reached 43.3%, which is 3.1 percentage points higher than in 2020, while the pesticide use efficiency coefficient for these crops was 45%, which is 4.4 percentage points above the 2020 level. The comprehensive utilization rate of agricultural straw has consistently remained above 88%.
