Shanghai, July 17 /Xinhua/ — Chinese President Xi Jinping stated on Friday that the world has entered a period of unprecedentedly active innovation in artificial intelligence (AI) technology, which opens up enormous opportunities and at the same time presents challenges in governance.
Speaking in a keynote address at the opening ceremony of the World Artificial Intelligence Conference 2026 and the High-Level Conference on Global AI Governance in Shanghai, Xi Jinping noted that humanity will have to find answers to the questions of the times: how people can get along with thinking machines, how to ensure safety when algorithms participate in decision-making, how ethical challenges arising from technological development can be addressed through adaptive governance, and how to make AI accessible to everyone as the gap continues to widen.
All these issues require serious consideration and a joint response from the international community, Xi Jinping pointed out.
