Beijing, July 15 /Xinhua/ — Attempts to define the status quo in the Taiwan Strait region under the new “two states” theory contradict legal principles, historical facts, and reality, constituting a false separatist narrative promoting “Taiwan independence,” said the official spokesperson of mainland China on Wednesday.
Zhu Fenglian, official representative of the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council of the PRC, made this remark in response to a question about comments from politicians of Taiwan’s Democratic Progressive Party (DPP), who accused mainland China of changing the status quo in the Taiwan Strait through military and non-military actions.
“Such statements are a complete distortion of facts and pure malicious speculation,” Zhu Fenglian said. “There is only one China in the world, and Taiwan is part of China – and this is the true status quo in the Taiwan Strait.”
She noted that the DPP administration stubbornly sticks to its “Taiwan independence” stance, refuses to recognize the 1992 Consensus, which embodies the one-China principle, and constantly conspires with external forces to carry out provocative actions aimed at achieving “Taiwan independence,” thereby violating the status quo across both sides of the strait.
