Beijing, July 13 /Xinhua/ — The National Meteorological Center (NMC) of China on Monday updated the “orange” level warning due to heavy rains and the “blue” level warning due to Typhoon Bavi, which became the ninth typhoon of 2026.
At 08:00 on Monday, “Bavi” was located in eastern China in the territory of Siyang County, administratively subordinate to the city of Suzhou in Anhui Province. The maximum wind speed at the periphery of the typhoon reached 20 meters per second.
According to forecasts, the typhoon will move northeast at a speed of 10-15 km/h, gradually weakening. On Tuesday, “Bavi” will most likely cross the Shandong Peninsula and enter the northern part of the Yellow Sea. After Wednesday, the typhoon will weaken to the category of an extratropical cyclone.
As previously reported, within 24 hours from 2:00 PM Monday to 2:00 PM Tuesday, strong winds with forces of 6 to 8 points are expected over a large part of the Yellow Sea and East China Sea waters, near the Diaoyu Islands archipelago, in the waters east of Taiwan, coastal areas of Taiwan Island, Zhejiang Province, Shanghai city, Hangzhou Bay, the mouth of the Yangtze River, as well as in Jiangsu, Shandong, and Liaoning provinces.
At the same time, local heavy rains or downpours are expected in the provinces of Liaoning, Jilin, Shandong, Jiangsu, Anhui, Jiangxi, Qinghai, Gansu, and Guangdong, as well as the Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, and on the islands of Hainan and Taiwan.
