Beijing, July 12 /Xinhua/ — The Ministry of Water Resources of China and the China Meteorological Administration jointly issued “red” level warnings at 6:00 PM on Saturday due to possible sudden floods, warning of increased risk of natural disasters in many regions of the country.
From 20:00 on July 11 to 20:00 on July 12, a high risk of sudden possible flooding is forecasted in some areas of the eastern part of Beijing city, the northern part of Tianjin city, the northeastern part of Hebei province, the eastern part of the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, the western part of Liaoning province, the northeastern part of Jilin province, the southern part of Heilongjiang province, the central and southern parts of Zhejiang province, the southern part of Anhui province, the northern part of Fujian province, the northeastern part of Jiangxi province, and the central part of Sichuan province.
In some areas of the eastern part of Beijing city, the northeastern part of Hebei province, the central and southern parts of Zhejiang province, and the southern part of Anhui province, a “red” level warning has been issued due to a very high risk of flash floods; at the same time, short-term heavy rains may also trigger sudden floods in other areas.
Also on Saturday, at 18:00, the Ministry of Water Resources of China and the China Meteorological Administration jointly issued “red” level warnings in connection with possible geological disasters, calling on local authorities to activate emergency response plans and strengthen disaster prevention measures.
The warning forecasts an increased risk of geological disasters in certain areas of the cities of Beijing and Tianjin, the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, and the provinces of Hebei, Liaoning, Jilin, Heilongjiang, Zhejiang, Anhui, Jiangxi, Fujian, Sichuan, Yunnan, Shaanxi, and Gansu, as well as in the Xizang Autonomous Region from 8:00 PM on July 11 to 8:00 PM on July 12.
