Hangzhou, July 12 /Xinhua/ — According to the meteorological observatory of Zhejiang Province, the ninth typhoon this year, “Bavi,” made landfall in the eastern Chinese province of Zhejiang at around 23:20 on Saturday.
At the moment of landfall, the maximum wind speed near its epicenter reached 40 meters per second. The typhoon initially struck the coast in the county-level city of Yuhuan, administratively subordinate to Taizhou, and then, around midnight, made landfall again in the county-level city of Yueqing, administratively subordinate to Wenzhou.
According to forecasts, the typhoon will bring heavy rains to the western regions of Zhejiang Province on Sunday.
The Flood, Drought, and Typhoon Control Headquarters of Zhejiang Province warned about the adverse impact of unfavorable weather conditions on urban services, transportation, and coastal aquaculture. It also called for increased vigilance regarding possible sudden floods in mountainous areas, geological disasters, urban flooding, floods on small and medium rivers, and inundation of agricultural lands. -0-
