More than 95,000 people evacuated due to heavy rains in Beijing

Beijing, July 11 /Xinhua/ — As of 5:00 PM on Friday, 95,657 people from 36,279 households have been evacuated in Beijing. Local authorities have strengthened flood control measures and conducted emergency evacuations due to heavy rainstorms.

On Friday, a new round of heavy rains struck the city. According to the city office of the headquarters for combating floods and droughts, from 8:00 to 17:00 an average of 12 mm of precipitation fell in Beijing. The heaviest rainfall was recorded at the market in the suburban district of Pinggu, where 164 mm of precipitation fell.

At large and medium reservoirs in the city, the water level is below the maximum allowable level during the flood period.

Local meteorological services also forecast moderate and heavy rain on Saturday.

Residents are advised to reduce outdoor activities and closely monitor warnings about adverse weather conditions and emergency messages.
