Kyiv, July 11 /Xinhua/ — The first meeting on the development of the European ground-based air defense system Freya, capable of intercepting ballistic missiles, will take place soon in France. This was announced on Friday on Telegram by the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky.
He reminded that this system should become an analogue of the American Patriot surface-to-air missile system, but cheaper and with more mass production.
V. Zelensky noted that in France, official Kyiv wants to present Freya to countries that can help it implement this project as quickly as possible. “If the leaders, their production capabilities, and their companies support Freya — Freya will start functioning in the near future,” he said.
Last month, the defense companies of Ukraine and Germany, Fire Point and Hensoldt, signed a memorandum of intent to jointly develop the Freya ground air defense system.
