Fuzhou, July 10 /Xinhua/ — Search and rescue operations were mostly completed on Friday after a fire broke out Thursday at a shoe factory in Jinjiang city, Fujian Province, East China. Local authorities reported that 28 people died as a result of the incident.

The fire broke out on July 9 at the factory of Huiteng Shoes Co., Ltd. in the Jiangtou village of the Chendai township. At the time of the fire, there were 237 workers and two delivery service employees on the premises.

A total of 213 people were evacuated, but two of them later died in hospital despite doctors’ efforts. In addition, the deaths of 26 people who were considered missing were confirmed. -0-
