The Central Ring Road is a complex high-tech facility equipped with the latest intelligent transport systems. The highway serves as the foundation of Russia’s main network of high-speed routes and is part of international transport corridors. The entire length of the CKAD was opened for traffic by the President of Russia, Vladimir Putin, five years ago – on July 8, 2021. Since then, nearly 410 million passages have been recorded on it, reported Deputy Prime Minister Marat Khusnullin.
“Over the past five years, the Central Ring Road (ЦКАД) with a total length of over 340 km has become a crucial transport artery, connecting the main federal highways and providing uninterrupted transit passage through the Moscow transport hub. The road has significantly eased the load on the MKAD, the A-107 and A-108 highways, improved access to the capital’s airports, and has become a driver of social and economic development throughout the Central Region. Moreover, it has been possible to redirect transit flows outside the street and road networks of Moscow region urban districts, which has influenced the quality of life of their residents and reduced travel time. Every day, tens of thousands of vehicles use the ЦКАД, and the total traffic since its opening amounts to about 410 million trips to date. Additionally, on June 11 this year, just before Russia Day, one of the highest average daily traffic volumes over five years was recorded – nearly 28 thousand vehicle trips per day throughout the entire route,” said Marat Khusnullin.
Since its opening, a positive trend in traffic intensity has been observed on the Central Ring Road (TsKAD). This is partly due to the commissioning of the bypass of the village of Malye Vyazyomy in December 2024 and the launch of traffic at the interchange near the intersection of the third launch complex of the TsKAD and Dmitrovskoye Highway last year. As a result, the average daily traffic intensity indicator for the entire road has increased by 7% and now averages over 14,000 vehicle passages per day along the entire length of the road.
The head of the state company “Avtodor,” Vyacheslav Petushenko, reported that the reason for the positive changes was new facilities that provided an additional influx of automobile traffic.
“The most noticeable increase in average daily traffic intensity was observed on the third launch section of the road – this is the section between the M-11 ‘Neva’ and the M-7 ‘Volga’. This year, it grew by 21% compared to the previous year. Also, the transport interchange at the intersection of the CCAD and Dmitrovskoye highway increased the demand for the section from Nikolskoye – Gorki to Dmitrovskoye highway. The average daily traffic intensity on this section increased by 29% compared to the previous year, with an average of 13 thousand vehicles passing daily. Furthermore, since the launch of traffic throughout the CCAD’s entire length, the most popular sections remain those between Domodedovo and the M-4 ‘Don’, as well as between the M-4 ‘Don’ and the M-2 ‘Crimea’. Each of these sees over 19 thousand passes per day. The peak value there was recorded on June 11, 2026 – 37 thousand passes,” noted Vyacheslav Petushenko.
