A solemn ceremony of awarding certificates to the graduates of the first specialized class of Rospotrebnadzor took place at the North-West Interregional Office of the Federal Service for Supervision of Natural Resource Usage. The ecological class was opened in 2024 at School No. 174 named after I. K. Beletsky with the support of the Engineering and Construction Institute of the Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University and the administration of the Central District of St. Petersburg.
The welcoming remarks were made by: the head of the North-West Interregional Department of Rosprirodnadzor, Mikhail Kozminykh; the Chairperson of the Committee on Youth Policy and Interaction with Public Organizations, Elena Razumishkina; the Deputy Head of the Central District Administration, Sergey Timofeev; the CEO of JSC “Nevsky Environmental Operator,” Ekaterina Gorshkova; as well as the principal of School No. 174, Olga Finagina.
I wish each of you to enroll in the university you dream of. The main thing that unites us all is our love for ecology. I will repeat my favorite words: it is never too late to become an ecologist, but it is simply impossible to stop being one. I sincerely hope that our cooperation will continue, and that you will come to our company for internships and eventually for work,
For two years, schoolchildren studied specialized subjects included in the “Fundamentals of Engineering Ecology” program. The students got acquainted with the basics of the profession, visited scientific laboratories of industrial ecology at ISI SPbPU, studied legislative and international environmental protection frameworks, basics of engineering protection of the hydrosphere, and practical tools for ecological activities. The project was coordinated by Irina Klimova, Associate Professor of the Higher School of Technosphere Safety at ISI. An important stage was the defense by the schoolchildren of their own developments aimed at solving pressing environmental problems. Two projects attracted special attention from the experts: a solution for detecting oil spills and monitoring ship movements called “Space Z,” and a system for collecting garbage in urban parks involving birds called “Green Beak.”
Graduates received not only certificates of general secondary education but also medals “For Special Achievements in Education” of the 1st and 2nd degrees, distinction badges “Pride of School-2026”, diplomas for completing the class of Rosprirodnadzor, and commemorative badges. Some graduates received honorary awards from the government of Saint Petersburg “For Special Achievements in Education”.
Early career guidance is the foundation for training in-demand engineering personnel. It is especially valuable for us that schoolchildren have the opportunity to immerse themselves in the professional environment already at the school stage, visit laboratories, and get acquainted with real industry challenges. This experience allows future applicants to make a conscious choice of profession and significantly easier adaptation to university education.
