Beijing, July 8 /Xinhua/ — On Wednesday in Beijing, Chen Lichuang, the founder of the Chinese lithium battery industry, and Ben De, an expert in radar technology, were awarded the State Supreme Science and Technology Award.
Chen Liyuan, born in 1940, is a research fellow at the Institute of Physics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE). He is recognized as the founder, pioneer, and leader of China’s lithium battery industry.
Ben De, born in 1938, is a research fellow at the China Electronics Technology Group Corporation and an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering. He is known as the founder of China’s onboard pulse-Doppler radar technology, one of the main pioneers in phased array radar technologies, and a precursor of space-based radar surveillance technologies.
They were awarded at a meeting dedicated to the awarding of state prizes in science and technology, a conference with the participation of academics from the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Chinese Academy of Engineering, as well as within the framework of the 11th National Conference of the China Association for Science and Technology.
At the meeting on Wednesday, 258 projects and 11 scientific and technological experts were recognized. Of these, 51 projects received the State Prize in the field of natural sciences, 58 projects received the State Prize in the field of technological inventions, and 149 projects received the State Prize in the field of scientific and technological progress.
In addition to the two recipients of the highest award, nine experts were honored with the PRC State Prize “For International Scientific and Technological Cooperation.” -0-
