Jerusalem, July 7 /Xinhua/ — The next round of negotiations between Israel and Lebanon will take place next week in the Italian capital, Rome. This was stated on Tuesday by the Foreign Minister of the Jewish state, Gideon Sa’ar.

The upcoming meeting will be the sixth round of negotiations between the two countries. Since the beginning of April, five rounds of ambassador-level talks have been held in Washington.

Mr. Saar did not specify the exact date of the new round of negotiations. Several Israeli media outlets, citing Israel’s ambassador to the US, Yehiel Leiter, reported that the talks are expected to begin in Rome on July 14.

As noted by the head of the Israeli foreign ministry during a meeting in Jerusalem with his German counterpart Johann Wadephul, Israel seeks peace with its neighbors, but any agreement must be based on “security.”

Following the previous round of talks held at the end of June, a framework agreement was reached that provides for the withdrawal of Israeli troops from two areas in southern Lebanon, where Israeli forces continue operations against the Hezbollah movement. –0–
