At the end of October 2026, the traditional Culture Days of students from Algeria were held at the Patrice Lumumba Russian University of Peoples’ Friendship. The organizers were the Algerian student community and the Department for Work with Student Associations, Projects, and Initiatives of RUDN.
Festival guests were able to attend classes on traditional dances, henna painting (mehndi), as well as admire handmade jewelry. The master class on preparing national dishes, organized in collaboration with the RUDN Women’s Committee, was especially popular. It was attended by more than 70 people.
On October 31, a concert was held at the international cultural center “Interclub RUDN”, dedicated not only to the closing of the Culture Days but also to the anniversary of the beginning of the National Liberation Revolution of Algeria. This country celebrates Revolution Day on November 1, recalling 1954 — the time when the struggle for independence from France began.
The honored guests of the evening were His Excellency the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Algeria to Moscow, Toufik Jouama, tutor for working with students from the Middle East and North Africa Ali Haidar and president of the Association of Algerian Students at RUDN Salma Belkired.
President of the Local Community Salma Belkired On behalf of all the students, she expressed gratitude to RUDN and the embassy: “Thank you all for bringing us together like one family. Throughout this week, we have tried to showcase our culture and traditions. Algeria is always in our hearts.”
Tufik Dzhuma noted the historical significance of the holiday for Algerian citizens and emphasized the strong, multifaceted relations between Russia and Algeria.
A Ali Haidar emphasized the unifying power of culture: “These days have become a bright celebration for the entire university. We saw how talented, proactive, and organized our Algerian students are. They not only presented their culture but also created an atmosphere of warmth and openness. This is the spirit of intercultural dialogue that we strive to cultivate at RUDN.”
