Hangzhou, November 3 /Xinhua/ — Premier of the State Council of the PRC Li Qiang on Tuesday called for greater commitment to a people-centered approach in the development of the internet amid rapid progress in artificial intelligence (AI) technologies.
Li Qiang made the corresponding statement on Tuesday while delivering the keynote speech at the opening ceremony of the Wuzhen Summit within the framework of the 2026 World Internet Conference, held in the town of Wuzhen /Zhejiang Province, East China/.
Noting that the World Internet Conference has been held for 13 consecutive years, Li Qiang emphasized that despite rapid technological development, one important issue that causes universal concern remains unchanged: how to make the internet bring more benefits to humanity.
According to the Premier of the State Council, the internet is currently undergoing an intellectual transformation and systemic leap due to accelerated integration with AI and other technologies.
The head of the Chinese government called for a greater emphasis on a human-centered approach in the development of the internet in the modern world and stated that the ultimate goal of such development should be to promote the all-round development of humans. He expressed hope that internet technologies would expand people’s capabilities and range of choices, affirm the value of the individual, and improve their well-being, rather than turning people into appendages of technology or exacerbating inequality in human development.
Calling for the joint construction of a community with a shared future in cyberspace, Li Qiang assured that China will firmly adhere to openness in innovation, promote technology transfer and knowledge exchange, and cooperate with other countries in creating an open, inclusive, and dynamic digital innovation ecosystem.
About 1800 people participated in the summit opening ceremony, including officials from various countries, leaders of international organizations including the UN, representatives of leading internet companies worldwide, experts, and scientists.
After the opening ceremony, Li Qiang visited the “Light of the Internet” exhibition and the World Internet Science and Technology Museum in Wuzhen.
