In mid-October, a China-Europe freight train loaded with automotive components and electronic products departed through the Alashankou checkpoint to the Polish town of Malaszewicze. Thus, since the beginning of this year, the number of China-Europe and China-Central Asia freight trains that have passed under customs control through Alashankou has exceeded 7,000. This figure was reached 45 days earlier than last year. In terms of the total number of freight trains allowed through, Alashankou ranks first among China’s checkpoints.
While the train was crossing the border, customs railway control department officer Zou Qingqing at Alashankou had already received the freight manifest data for the next train. Thus, the information arrives at the checkpoint ahead of the cargo itself. “Previously, trains waited for people, and containers waited for documents. Now, documents are already waiting for people, and the cargo waits for the trains,” Zou Qingqing said.
According to Yan Yiun, a customer relations manager at the international transport and forwarding company “Alashankou Bobao,” all necessary procedures can now be completed online in one go. As a result, the customs clearance time has been reduced from two to three days to a minimum of 16 hours, and operational costs for enterprises have decreased by 30%. The average customs clearance time for import cargo has been reduced by more than 70%, container turnover has accelerated, and expenses for logistics, financial operations, and labor have decreased.
Currently, 130 freight train routes China-Europe and China-Central Asia pass through Alashankou, connecting China with 21 countries, including Germany and Poland. More than 200 types of goods are transported on these routes. The development of the route network contributes to the formation of an efficient and smoothly operating trade and economic corridor between Asia and Europe.
