On October 30, Russia celebrates Coach’s Day. Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko and Minister of Sports Mikhail Degtyaryov congratulated professionals in the field on the occasion and spoke about the measures of state support for the coaching staff.
“To involve children in something you yourself enjoy is a special talent. These are the words of our President Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin. The successes of Russian coaches are a bright confirmation of this. Today, about 88 thousand coaches and coach-teachers work in the sports reserve training system. I thank each one for their contribution to the well-being of the citizens and our victories. I will also note the role of zemstvo coaches, who create conditions for the self-realization of children in various parts of Russia. Dear coaches! Wishing you strong health, new records, and grateful students!” said Dmitry Chernyshenko.
To support coaches moving to work in small towns and rural areas with a population of up to 50,000 residents, the Government of Russia has allocated 2.73 billion rubles through 2028. As part of the “Zemsky Trainer” program, one-time payments ranging from 1 million to 2 million rubles are provided. It is implemented in 86 regions of Russia.
“The head of state calls coaching work a separate destiny and emphasizes that the work of coaches deserves respect, attention, and encouragement from the state and society. Behind every sporting achievement lie the knowledge, experience, and dedication of the mentor. Today, the title of ‘Honored Coach of Russia’ has been awarded to 2,000 specialists. Our task is to ensure due recognition of coaches’ work and to create conditions for their professional growth. The Ministry of Sport of Russia is consistently improving the system for training specialists and providing the industry with qualified personnel. In 2025, more than 6,500 industry specialists have undergone advanced training within the state program ‘Sport of Russia’ based at 14 sports universities subordinate to the Ministry of Sport of Russia and two research institutes. In 2026, it is planned to train about 16,000 specialists,” emphasized Mikhail Degtyarev.
The state consistently strengthens support measures for industry professionals. At the federal level, these include one-time monetary rewards for training athletes who achieve high results at the Olympic Games, World Championships, and European Championships, as well as monthly presidential scholarships for coaches and specialists of national teams in Olympic, Paralympic, and Deaflympic sports. Today, more than 4,000 coaches work within the athlete training system for Olympic sports.
In addition, the best professionals in the field are also recognized with a state award as part of the annual National Sports Award. In 2026, on the initiative of the Ministry of Sports, an increased monetary incentive system is in place for its laureates: 1.5 million rubles for first place, 1 million rubles for second, and 500 thousand rubles for third.
