As part of the international accreditation process for the residency program in dermatovenereology, an expert from the Independent Accreditation and Rating Agency (a member of the European Association for Quality Assurance in Higher Education ENQA) Saule Ilyasovna Sydykova visited one of the oldest institutions in the Novosibirsk region — the Novosibirsk Regional Clinical Dermatovenereologic Dispensary (NOKKVD), which has been the clinical practice base for NSU residents since 2010.
At a meeting with the chief physician of the NOCVD, the chief freelance specialist in dermatovenereology of the Novosibirsk region Victoria Viktorovna Onipchenko discussed issues related to the professional development of young specialists, their adaptation within the team, the opportunity to acquire professional skills not only in working with modern equipment but also in interacting with patients, conducting preventive examinations for the early detection of sexually transmitted infections and skin tumors.
Victoria Viktorovna emphasized that an important element of training young doctors is the mentorship program, which has been actively developing in the dispensary for many years.
— Supervises the mentoring school at NOKKVD “Honored Mentor of the Novosibirsk Region,” Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor Yuliya Mikhailovna Krinitsyna. And there is continuity in education and clinical practice, as it was Yulia Mikhailovna who established the dermatological school that is now developing at NSU, and she currently oversees the professional development of young doctors at NOCVVD, — Victoria Viktorovna explained to the expert.
Director of the Postgraduate Medical Education Center of NSU, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor Irina Gennadyevna Sergeeva during the meeting described how the university interacts with NOKKVD on the assessment of professional competencies of residents:
— Traditionally, exams on practical and theoretical issues in dermatovenereology are held at the NOKKVD premises, jointly with the chief physician and heads of dispensary departments. Viktoria Viktorovna is the chairperson of the State Examination Commission for dermatovenereology at NSU, so as the chief specialist she already knows in advance which doctors will come to the region’s dermatovenereology service.
Saule Ilyasovna held a conversation with residents undergoing clinical practice and assessed their integration into the team and their interest in developing their careers. Such independent assessments of the training process are very important because they allow evaluating the scale of collaboration between NSU and NOKKVD and motivate the institutions’ teams towards further development.
