A lecture on Japanese prose of the past century will be held at the A.P. Bogolyubov Art Library.

Japanese prose of the 20th century is a phenomenon reflecting the rapid changes in Japanese society against the backdrop of world events. During this period, literature traveled the path from the transitional Meiji and Taisho eras to the flourishing of modernism and postmodernism, giving the world authors such as Yasunari Kawabata, Yukio Mishima, and Kobo Abe.

The authors sought to combine national aesthetic principles with the influence of Western literature and culture, to explore the inner world of the characters, their experiences and conflicts, as well as to develop new genres: modernist prose, magical realism, and essay writing.

Lecturer — Japanologist, playwright, translator Pavel Sokolov.
