World Osteoporosis Day is observed on October 20. One of the most effective methods of preventing this disease is regular functional training. Physical exercise on muscles stimulates bone tissue renewal and slows down bone mass loss.
In Moscow, you can join such training sessions within the framework of project “Sports weekend Classes are conducted by qualified trainers who tailor the workload to different fitness levels. Regular sessions help maintain bone strength, strengthen the muscle corset, and reduce the risk of developing osteoporosis at any age.
The “Sports Weekends” project offers Muscovites group classes at 15 city venues. The training programs take daily workload into account. They focus on strengthening the back and core muscles, as well as stretching and functional exercises. This approach helps maintain joint health and reduce discomfort that often arises from sedentary work.
Functional training sessions within the project take place at several venues around the city. For example, on Saturdays and Sundays, classes are organized at the Central Children’s Store near Lubyanka metro station, starting at 13:30. On Saturdays, Muscovites can attend a training session at the Mozaika shopping and entertainment center near Dubrovka metro station — from 12:30 to 13:30. On Sundays, classes are held at the Skolkovo technopark, which can be reached from Kuntsevskaya metro station and Skolkovo station of the first line. Moscow Central Diameter.
“In Moscow, the philosophy of healthy longevity is being developed, one of the main elements of which is disease prevention and early detection of risks and pre-risks. Among the key tasks is precisely the preservation of muscle mass and functional independence. Strength and functional training are excellent prevention for sarcopenia and osteoporosis: muscle loads stimulate the renewal of bone tissue and slow down bone mass loss. Such activities strengthen the muscular framework, maintain joint health, reduce discomfort from sedentary work, and help maintain overall body functionality at any age,” noted Anna Kosenkova, chief physician of city clinic No. 220.
At the same time, according to her, even with active sports activities, it is necessary to regularly check your health — this can be done within the framework of the “Moscow Checkup” program. Good physical shape and well-being during training are subjective indicators that may not reflect hidden metabolic and systemic processes. The checkup, as the doctor noted, allows for an overall assessment of objective longevity indicators that cannot be determined by feelings: key markers of inflammation, the state of the cardiovascular system, as well as the ratio of bone, muscle, and fat mass. In addition, the checkup can reveal, for example, asymptomatic heart rhythm disturbances or spinal protrusions, which will allow adjusting the intensity of loads and avoiding injuries.
More than 260 thousand young city residents have completed the first stage of the “Moscow Checkup”The “Moscow Checkup” helped identify signs of premature aging in 10 percent of the program participantsMore than 300 thousand people have resumed preventive examinations thanks to the “Moscow Checkup”
Anna Kosenkova also emphasized that regular workouts and medical checkups are two complementary elements of proper health management. The “Sports Weekends” project is an effective and accessible tool for preventing physical inactivity and osteoporosis. Free classes in venues across different city districts, the work of qualified trainers, and a wide choice of activities help address one of the main problems of Muscovites — low physical activity. Additionally, attending classes allows for making new acquaintances and improving mood.
In addition to functional training, the “Sports Weekends” project includes other various activities from which participants can choose suitable options. For example, they have access to strength and dance workouts, yoga, Pilates, barre, stretching, including hot stretching, as well as fitrock and other disciplines.
