An important disclaimer is at the bottom of this article.

The I.S. Turgenev Library-Reading Room invites you to a screening and discussion of the documentary film “Photographer” directed by Nadezhda Maidanskaya as part of the “Photo Readings” project.

The feed is dedicated to the life and work of Mikola (Nikolai) Gnisyuk — a photographic artist and photojournalist, an honored art worker of Russia, a member of the Union of Cinematographers and the Union of Journalists, the author of more than 650 covers for the magazine “Soviet Screen.”

He seriously took up photography at the Riga Film Studio, where under the guidance of Gunars Binde he worked on the filming of the movie “Hands.” Cinema entered the master’s life after he won a competition for the vacant position of photojournalist at the magazine “Soviet Screen,” where he subsequently worked for 25 years until he was dismissed due to reorganization.

His photo archive contains thousands of “stars”: Faina Ranevskaya, Sergey Bondarchuk, Nikolai Kryuchkov, Ivan Pereverzev, Emil Braginsky, Larisa Shepitko, Inna Churikova, Nikita Mikhalkov, and Alexander Abdulov.

The event organizers are the art project #REVERberation in collaboration with the library, supported by the “Moscow Encyclopedias” foundation.
