From October 16 to 18, a scientific conference titled “Chinese Perspective and International Dialogue: Continuity, Evolution, and Innovations in the Study of Contemporary Russian Literature” was held at Beijing Foreign Studies University (BFSU). The event was organized by BFSU. Chinese and Russian scholars participated in the conference, discussing the history of the study of Russian and Soviet literature in China, the leading directions of this discipline, as well as issues of humanitarian exchange between China and Russia. The year 2026 marks the launch of the cross Years of Education between China and Russia. In addition, this year marks the 85th anniversary of the founding of BFSU and its Institute of Russian Language, which gives special significance to the holding of the conference.
At the opening ceremony, Yin Zhaohua, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of PUYA, spoke. She noted that the Department of Russian Language at PUYA has a rich history and has served the strategic interests of the country for 85 years, promoting Sino-Russian interaction. From the Yan’an Russian Translators’ Detachment to the creation of a world-leading Department of Russian Language, generations of Russian language scholars have achieved significant results in personnel training, literary translation, and humanitarian contacts. Currently, the Russian Language Institute is implementing a key project as part of the China-Russia Years of Education, contributing to the mutual enrichment of the civilizations of the two countries. This conference appeals to academic traditions and explores new directions in foreign language studies. A forum for young scholars has been organized within the event to promote their professional growth and strengthen Sino-Russian academic cooperation.

He also thanked Huang Mei, Director of the Russian Language Institute at PUYIA, for the organizational work in preparing the opening ceremony of the China-Russia Years of Education.
Wang Zonghu, Chairman of the Department for the Study of Russian Literature of the Chinese Association for the Study of Foreign Literature, emphasized in his speech that research should be based on local experience, adhere to a “bicultural orientation,” utilize Chinese intellectual resources to form a “Chinese school” in the study of Russian literature, and create a platform for literary exchange that unites creativity, translation, research, and dissemination. According to him, in the era of artificial intelligence, literature maintains an irreplaceable value for the spiritual life of people.
