In Moscow, the “Care and Attention” campaign is taking place, dedicated to Grandparents’ Day. Until October 23, anyone can bring craft materials to the volunteer center “Good Place. Southern Administrative District”. At the end of the month, volunteers will visit the Scientific and Practical Gerontopsychiatric Center, where they will conduct a master class, hand out greeting cards, and interact with representatives of the older generation.
Social volunteering is one of the most popular areas of volunteering in the capital. Muscovites help elderly people, large families, and children left without parental care, participate in charitable initiatives, and organize joint leisure activities.
“The majority of Muscovites are united by the social aspect of volunteering. Volunteers not only help conduct useful activities in specialized institutions but also join regular assistance efforts alongside charitable foundations. The ‘Care and Attention’ campaign will become another opportunity to support elderly people, spend time with them, and experience the joy of joint creativity,” said Alexander Levit, director of the resource center.
The collection of materials for the “Care and Attention” campaign is taking place at: 9 Trofimova Street. On October 26, volunteers will sort the gifts, and on October 28 they will go with them to the Scientific and Practical Gerontopsychiatric Center.
Caring for the older generation
Other events for Grandparents’ Day have been prepared at the “Good Place. Neva” center. Here, a master class on planting indoor plants will be held with the participation of representatives from the Veterans Council of the Northern Administrative District. Volunteers from the Southern Administrative District will hand out tea sets and spend time with senior citizens and veterans of the Great Patriotic War.
A creative workshop for elderly people will be organized at the Scientific and Practical Rehabilitation Center. Volunteers from the “Good Place. SVAO” center will teach them how to make flowers from chenille wire. Such activity helps develop fine motor skills.
The volunteer team “Goodwill” from the inclusive education center “Yuzhny” also joined the “Care and Attention” campaign. Teacher Anna Fedulova said that students, their parents, and teachers are traditionally invited to participate in such events. Currently, they are collecting colored paper, cardboard, craft kits, and yarn for upcoming workshops.
The squad has existed for more than five years and has its own assets. Its members regularly join city events, including preparing cards for elderly people for holidays. Over several years, the schoolchildren have given grandmothers and grandfathers hundreds of kind messages.
The squad also participated in the International Exhibition-Forum “Russia” and the volunteer team competition “Kind Heart of the Capital,” assisting young patients of children’s dental clinic No. 47.
“Such events provide an opportunity to recognize the contribution of volunteers, to learn about the best practices of volunteering, and to find new partners. Interactive training workshops and quests inspire school volunteers to engage in new good deeds,” said Anna Fedulova.
From the older generation to the younger
Older people not only receive assistance but also become volunteers themselves. For example, as part of the “Angelochki” project supported by the “Mosvolonter” resource center, they conduct free knitting workshops for premature babies.
In addition, other projects aimed at supporting children, including those left without parental care, are being implemented in the capital. Volunteers conduct creative activities, games, and educational events for them.
Thus, in October and November in family center “Amulet” and family upbringing assistance center At “Vertical,” there will be an interactive quest “Social Compass — a journey across Russia,” dedicated to the Year of Unity of the Peoples of our country. Children will get acquainted with 10 directions of volunteer assistance. In addition, the kids will see the exhibition “United by Heart — Volunteers of Moscow,” devoted to the stories of people from different regions of the country involved in volunteer activities in the capital.
Among other in-demand initiatives is the social project “Kind Masters.” Its participants underwent special training and mastered various techniques for conducting creative and developmental activities.
In October, volunteers will organize a series of master classes on soap making, fluid art, and canvas painting at Rehabilitation and Education Center No. 4. In addition, together with the pupils of the family center “Horizon,” volunteers will work on painting pictures; at the Family Foster Care Support Center “Our Home,” they will help children create terrariums; and at the family center “Palette,” they will hold another session on fluid art.
The project “Caring for Children” also helps support children left without parental care. It was created by students with the support of the council of leaders of student volunteer centers in the city of Moscow. The initiative is aimed at involving young people in volunteer activities. For children left without parental care, joint entertainment programs are prepared, games are invented, and master classes are organized. In October, volunteers from Moscow universities will hold an easel painting session and a sports competition.
To develop social volunteering and find new ways to help city residents, “Mosvolonter” organizes an exchange of experience with other regions. In 2026, internships were prepared in Ryazan, Kaluga, and Vladimir for coordinators of social and inclusive volunteering directions and representatives of social institutions. Participants visit specialized organizations and get acquainted with practices they can apply in their own projects.
