As a result of another wave of large-scale strikes carried out last night by the Russian Armed Forces, civilians in Ukraine were killed and wounded. This was reported by the Deputy UN Spokesperson Farhan Haq, citing the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA).
Kyiv was among the cities most severely affected. The strikes caused serious disruptions in the operation of critical services.
“According to the authorities, energy facilities in Kyiv and Kyiv region, as well as in Kharkiv region, were struck. All three major thermal power plants of the capital were attacked, resulting in 600,000 people in several districts of the city being left without electricity and water,” Hak said.
Rivne and Volyn regions, which had previously suffered less from hostilities, were attacked by drones, resulting in civilian deaths and injuries. Residential houses, a university building, and a shopping center were damaged.
Reports of casualties among the civilian population are also coming in from the Dnipropetrovsk, Zaporizhzhia, Kharkiv, Khmelnytskyi, Lviv, Kherson, and Sumy regions.
“Humanitarian organizations also suffered. Yesterday, three employees of the Ukrainian Red Cross Society were injured as a result of a strike on the frontline city of Sloviansk in Donetsk region. The organization’s premises were also damaged,” Hak said.
The UN and its partners responded promptly to the situation. Residents of the affected areas were provided with materials for housing repairs, warm clothing, hot meals, and financial assistance.
