Every year on the third Sunday of October, Father’s Day is celebrated in Russia. This year it will be held on the 18th. “Mosbilet” prepared a selection of ideas on where to spend the holiday with the whole family and which events to attend together with the dads.
Barbecue in nature and scenic routes
While autumn still delights with bright colors in the capital, you can spend time on a walk. What to choose for your destination will be helped by special section “Mosbileta.” It contains well-thought-out routes around the city. Inside each one are engaging details about the capital, landmarks, and spots where you can take beautiful photos. The description includes a map, the time required to visit all the places along the route, the distance, and the operating hours of the venues.
Thus, the route “Kuskovo: Lessons in Hedonism from Count Sheremetev” will offer to go to the palace and park where Moscow aristocrats gathered, and find out how one of the wealthiest nobles of the 18th century rested. Another route — “Tsaritsyno: The Ghost of Gothic in Moscow” — invites you to spend time at the country residence of Catherine II. Participants will find mesmerizing architecture, a tropical oasis, an interactive quest, and many imperial secrets.
You can also go on a picnic with the whole family. For this purpose, special gazebos with barbecues are equipped in the capital’s parks, where you can grill shashlik or roast vegetables, with tables and benches. It’s convenient to relax here in different seasons. Booking is available through the service “Mosbilet”. An interactive map will help you decide on a location. Gazebos can be rented in the parks «Sokolniki», «Raduga», «Mitino», «Kuzminki-Lyublino», «Khodynskoye Pole» and others.
For half an hour or the entire weekend: autumn routes through Moscow’s parks
Treasure hoard and space flight
There is a favorite activity for those who appreciate new knowledge on Father’s Day. You can go together with dad to Cosmonautics Museum. Here they will explain how space is structured and what achievements humans have made in this field. The exhibition features models of the first satellites and automatic stations, spacesuits of Yuri Gagarin and Alexei Leonov, models of global cosmodromes, and much more.
There is also an interactive simulator operating in the museum lobby “Orion”. Children and adults can take a seat in the cockpit of the spaceship of the future, put on 3D glasses, and take the control stick into their hands. The flight program includes launching the ship into orbit on a carrier rocket, docking with the International Space Station, flying to the Moon with a mission, dodging asteroids, and returning to Earth. Such an adventure will be remembered for a long time. And after a walk through the museum, you can discuss with dad why every boy in his childhood dreamed of becoming a cosmonaut.
On October 18 at 13:00, an exclusive screening of a film dedicated to one of the most outstanding figures of domestic and world cosmonautics — the legendary Alexei Leonov — will take place in the cinema hall of the Museum of Cosmonautics. The screening is timed to Father’s Day for a reason. Leonov, being not only a pioneer in space exploration and the first person to perform a spacewalk but also a symbol of courage, responsibility, and determination, embodies the qualities of a true father and mentor. The film will detail his heroic path, brave decisions, incredible achievements, including the historic spacewalk and the “Soyuz–Apollo” program, as well as the personal qualities that made him an example for millions.
Unusual impressions will also be left by Museum of Archaeology of Moscow — a division of the Museum of Moscow. Its exhibition halls are located in an underground pavilion seven meters deep at Manezhnaya Square. It houses one of the largest treasure troves found in Moscow. It was discovered in 1996 at the Old Guest Court. It is believed that the treasure was hidden by a wealthy city dweller, possibly the owner of one of the merchant chambers.
Treasure hunts can also be undertaken in the Mitino Landscape Park. Here, on October 18 at 12:00, there will be master class in archaeology. The session will be devoted to birch bark manuscripts, which were first found during excavations in Veliky Novgorod. Each child will receive an assignment and their own excavation site. The finds will need to be cleaned and restored, and then an attempt will be made to read them.
Underwater world and magical city
Together with dad on his special day, you can go on a magical adventure. Thus, the Moscow Children’s Musical and Drama Theater “Generation” invites to the performance “The Wizard of the Emerald City”. It will be shown on October 18 at 11:00, 14:00, and 17:00.
The production tells the story of a journey to the Magical Land, where animals gain the ability to speak, and miracles happen at every step. The main characters of the story are the dreamy girl Ellie and her devoted dog Toto. A powerful hurricane, summoned by the evil witch Ginge, carries the friends to amazing lands where, among talking forests and mysterious paths, great adventures, unexpected acquaintances, and dangerous trials begin. The heroes will try, step by step, to overcome fear and doubt, find the way home, and understand that true magic has always been hidden in their own hearts.
Adventures await young Muscovites and their parents at the Great Moscow Circus as well. Here, they will present an anniversary program “Quite large”, dedicated to the 50th anniversary of the circus director, People’s Artist of Russia Edgard Zapashny. The audience will see performances by acrobats, aerial gymnasts, and animals under the guidance of experienced trainers. Also, People’s Artists of Russia Edgard and Askold Zapashny will take the ring. The show will be performed on October 18 at 1:00 PM and 5:00 PM.
Fans of thrilling performances should also visit the capital’s “Moskvarium” at VDNH. Here they show a show featuring marine creatures. On Sundays at 14:00, you can watch sharks being fed at the “Moskvarium”. Entrance is by ticket.
The “Moskvarium” at VDNH is one of the largest oceanariums in Europe. The exhibition features about 12,000 marine and freshwater inhabitants. For children from three to under twelve years old, a “Young Visitor” rate is available. The purchased ticket is valid throughout the selected day according to the venue’s operating hours.

You can purchase tickets for any events from the selection without surcharges and fees using the service “Mosbilet”.
“Mosbilet” is the official service on the mos.ru portal, through which you can purchase tickets to theaters, museums, concert halls, and other institutions subordinate to the city’s Department of Culture, without commissions or markups. The service page features announcements of the most anticipated events, season premieres, activities within city festivals, exhibitions, performances, and concerts taking place over the coming weekend.
You can purchase a ticket directly through the service. For events that require personal data to buy a ticket, it is not necessary to enter the visitor’s last name, first name, middle name, and details: if the user has a standard or full account, it is enough to leave the default value — Mos ID — in the document selection field. Mandatory fields must be filled in manually if the account is simplified. When purchasing tickets for young guests through the service, all data must be entered only by the accompanying adult. For children under 14 years old, only the last name, first name, middle name, and date of birth can be specified; when attending cultural events, showing the child’s document is not required.
In addition, authorized users will be able to open QR codes in the mobile applications “My Moscow,” “My id,” and “Moscow Public Services.”
