In the Gogol House, subordinate to the capital Department of Culture, on October 18, events dedicated to the great writer will take place. They can be attended by prior registration in the service “Mosbilet”.

At 11:00, there will be an author-led tour of the memorial exhibition “Conversation with the Exhibits,” whose main characters will be the display objects. Svetlana Milovanova, the curator of the Gogol House collections, will tell the story of the writer’s belongings from their own perspective, paying special attention to the memorial items from the Gogol-Yanovsky family. Many of these items went through a difficult journey before arriving in the museum halls. Entrance is by free tickets.

At 13:00, there will be a master class “Gogol’s Herbarium,” where participants can create an embroidered miniature depicting various flowers using floss, ribbons, beads, and fabric. The writer was interested in botany and appreciated nature. His notebooks contain many pages dedicated to this subject. The museum preserves his botanical drawings from his gymnasium years and the herbarium he collected together with his sister Olga in the surroundings of his native Vasilyevka. Entrance is by free tickets.

And at 16:00, guests will be able to take part in a discussion on the history of the creation of the novella “The Overcoat” as part of the open reading club “Reading with Gogol.” During the discussion, attendees will share their opinions on how the work was written, what influenced it, how it was received by the writer’s contemporaries, and why he chose specifically the overcoat. Nikolai Gogol began working on the novella in 1839 and returned to it over the following two years. Unlike other novellas of the Petersburg cycle, published since 1835, “The Overcoat” was not published in a collection or in a periodical, but immediately in the third volume of the author’s collected works, released in 1842. Tickets can be purchased through the service “Mosbilet”.

The program of events in city museums contributes to the implementation of the goals and objectives of the national project in Moscow “Family”. More details about Russia’s national projects and the capital’s contribution can be found at special page.
