We talk about the team of the project “Development of next-generation burner devices for pyrolysis furnaces.” The leader is Yuri Aristovich, an expert at the Research and Education Center “Digital Engineering of Core Equipment for Chemical-Technological Systems.”
Initially, an Advanced Engineering School “Digital Engineering” was established at the Polytechnic, and the team joined it with their topic. Then it was time to present projects for participation in the “Priority 2030” program. The director of AES, Alexey Borovkov, suggested that the researchers apply for participation. This is how the final project topic was formulated. Moreover, it was based on market demands. There is a problem that requires a solution, and it is directly related to the Priority, so it is precisely about import substitution outpacing. Thus, the logic fell into place by itself; the team submitted their project and ended up among the winners.
“On one hand, participation in ‘Priority 2030’ is a grant and resources. On the other hand, it is interaction with industrial partners, and there are many of them. When enterprises see that this is a priority topic, that the project is funded by the state, that it is supported by the state, they also want to participate. It is prestigious because the state represents expertise in importance and necessity, and is an indicator of the project’s exclusivity. Participation in the ‘Priority 2030’ program proves our significance, promotes the project, and facilitates its advancement.” — said the project manager Yuri Aristovich.
Next-generation burner devices for pyrolysis furnaces are among the most complex units in petrochemical synthesis, and their development is one of the largest installation processes in petrochemistry. The burner is the key component at the heart of the process, ensuring its efficient execution. Everything matters here: the temperature regime and the uniformity of temperature distribution for carrying out the endothermic reaction inside the reaction tube. Accordingly, this is one of the vivid objects of Mega Science.
Mega Science is a combination of various scientific disciplines in one study. The main goal of the project is not import substitution, but import overtaking. The team aims to create a burner that surpasses existing world analogues. To achieve this, a virtual test bench for burner devices is being developed, on which virtual tests can be conducted.
The team consists of Mega Science people. These are people with broad profiles and extensive competencies. They combine the skills of designers, technologists, engineers, thermodynamicists, and a number of other specialties needed for modeling such a complex process.
Yuri Aristovich talked about how they recruit new specialists for their project: There is the so-called word-of-mouth. This is the main way because everyone in our field knows each other. The most important thing is the results we achieve. When people see these results, they are drawn to them and become interested. Many master’s students come. Some even start working right from admission.
