The vocal cycle by Franz Schubert, written to the poetry of the German poet Wilhelm Müller — “Winterreise” — will be performed on the stage of the large hall of the “Zaryadye” concert hall.

The cycle was created in 1827, a year before the composer’s death. The work on the 24 pieces was divided into two stages: the first 12 were completed by February, the rest in the autumn. The compositions were published in 1828 in two parts.

The plot tells the story of a lonely traveler leaving the city after a romantic disappointment. His winter journey becomes the basis for memories, observations, and reflections: external events gradually give way to an inner monologue. “Winter Journey” holds a special place in the history of German chamber-vocal music due to the unity of poetic and musical development and the new relationship between voice and piano.

Each song reveals a separate episode of the journey and simultaneously reflects the hero’s state. Throughout the cycle, the musical images become increasingly restrained and anxious.

Performers — Boris Pinkhasovich (baritone), Maria Printz (piano).

Duration — 75 minutes without intermission.
