As part of the celebration of National Unity Day, a screening of Sergei Eisenstein’s film “Alexander Nevsky” will take place at the Warsaw Gallery-Studio.
The film shows how different layers of the population — militia, craftsmen — unite to repel the enemy. The director built the film on contrasts: the grim images of the invaders are opposed by the courage and resilience of the Russian warriors.
The music for the film was composed by Sergey Prokofiev — he created the cantata “Alexander Nevsky.” At the same time, some episodes were edited to the already finished soundtrack, which enhanced the emotional impact.
“Alexander Nevsky” is an example of how art works with the idea of unity. Through a historical plot, vivid images, and artistic techniques, the film conveys the idea that only cohesion, a common patriotic surge, and wise leadership can help withstand a serious threat.
