An important disclaimer is at the bottom of this article.

In 1922, a case was opened against the journalist Mikhail Bulgakov at the Joint Chief Political Directorate (OGPU). From that moment, he was closely monitored. In 1926, his manuscripts and diary were confiscated, he was interrogated, and they tried to ban the play “The Days of the Turbins.”

The writer reflected on the nature of power, the possibility of being a writer, and his relationship with Joseph Stalin in his works, letters, and diary. This theme became important for Bulgakov in his work on the novel “The Master and Margarita.”

The lecture will be dedicated to the biography of the writer and the works in which the theme of the writer and power is reflected, as well as a brief personal contact of Mikhail Bulgakov with Joseph Stalin.

Lecturer — Maria Kotova, Candidate of Philological Sciences, Chief Researcher of the Scientific and Educational Department of the M.A. Bulgakov State Museum.

The event is part of the lecture series of the Scientific and Educational Center of the Mikhail Bulgakov Museum.
