The Moscow Operetta Theatre, which has staged this classic operetta by Franz Lehár multiple times, decided this time to fantasize about filming “The Merry Widow” in cinema.

Grandiose dance compositions and stylish plastic scenes, fashionable early 20th century costumes and luxurious ballroom outfits with boas, feathers, and hats… On stage, with all the splendor of the Art Deco era, a world of theater and cinema is created, infused with the atmosphere of old Hollywood.

The magnificent music of Franz Lehár not only drives the action forward — it connects the illusory worlds of theater and cinema with life, blurring the fine boundaries between them. Thanks to transforming sets and special effects that instantly change the stage space, the audience becomes not only witnesses but practically participants in the filming process, where the stage turns alternately into a film studio, the halls and park of an embassy, and the famous MAXIM’S restaurant.

Starring: Maria Vorozheyikina, Anna Zolotova, Ivan Vikulov, Pavel Ivanov, Olga Belokhvostova, Yuri Vedeneev, Alexander Babik, and others.

Director — Alexey Frandetti.
