From September 29 to October 1, an event accompanying the VI Congress of Young Scientists was held in Rostov-on-Don at the Don State Technical University. The organizers were the Government of the Rostov Region, the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of Russia, and the Roscongress Foundation. The forum brought together more than 100 researchers, experts, and representatives of universities from 26 regions and 32 cities of Russia.
The expert group involved in developing an integrated water resources management system and adapting agriculture of the southern macroregion of the Azov region to climate change included two representatives from Novosibirsk State University: Maxim Fomenko, Head of the Internal Control Department for Financial and Economic Activities at NSU, and Georgy Lazarenko, director of the NSU Climate Center.
— We were not acquainted before being placed in the same subgroup. This reflects the scale of NSU, where specialists from different fields do not always interact in their daily activities. Working together at the forum allowed us to expand internal contacts, — noted Maksim Fomenko.
The participants worked on tasks set by the leadership of the Rostov region — preservation of water resources, restoration of forest belts, and agricultural sustainability. Following three days of work, experts prepared a roadmap with proposals that will form the basis of appeals to federal and regional authorities.
— Although I am not connected to science in the classical sense—I am not an agrarian or a geographer—knowledge in the field of management and economics plays a key role in forming the final result. Managers primarily look at the project’s roadmap: how many resources will be required, over what period of time it will be implemented, and what result will be achieved: not only economic but also socially oriented. For the implementation of our project, we requested about 42 billion rubles. I would like to note separately that if the project is not realized, we may question the effective implementation of the national food security project. Not because it will not be achieved, but because it will have to be ensured by other means., — emphasized Maksim Fomenko.
The Deputy Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation took part in the final meeting Denis Sekirinsky.
— The presented projects demonstrated that collaboration between researchers and the region not only allows for a deeper understanding of existing challenges but also helps to develop concrete mechanisms for their resolution. We expect that this work will continue at the Congress of Young Scientists in Saint Petersburg, and that we will be able to see the first results of the implementation of the proposed ideas. — said Denis Sekirinsky.
Deputy Governor of the Rostov Region Andrey Fateev He noted the region’s interest in the practical implementation of the proposed solutions.
— The geography of the event participants is impressive. But what is important for us is that among the experts there are representatives of the coastal regions, whose territories are included in the Sustainable Development Strategy of the Azov Region until 2040. Our region possesses one of the most powerful scientific, educational, and engineering potentials in the south of the country. I hope that the Rostov region will become for scientists not just the venue of the event, but also a place where new professional connections and future projects will begin. — noted Andrey Fateev.
Satellite events of the Congress of Young Scientists are held within the framework of the Decade of Science and Technology, announced by the President of Russia Vladimir Putin. The final proposals of the Rostov forum will be presented at the VI Congress of Young Scientists, which will take place from December 2 to 4 in Saint Petersburg.
