On Teacher’s Day, Sergey Sobyanin presented honorary certificates from the Moscow Government to 25 teachers recognized as the best based on a survey of graduates from Moscow schools for the 2025/2026 academic year.

“Over the course of several decades, you have graduated almost half of everyone currently working in Moscow across a wide range of professions: workers, engineers, specialists, teachers, doctors, transport workers, financiers, managers. And looking at you, one can talk not about what future of the country you are shaping, but about what you have already created, what already works for the benefit of the country and our city,” the Mayor of Moscow addressed the teachers.

Among the awardees are teachers of mathematics, biology, English, Russian language and literature, history and social studies, computer science, and physics — educators from 22 schools. Most of them have been working in this field for many years. Among the best are winners of professional competitions and honored education workers of Moscow, teachers whose graduates annually achieve the highest scores on the Unified State Exam (USE) and become winners and prize-winners of the All-Russian and Moscow school Olympiads. Along with the honorary certificate, each teacher receives a cash prize of 250,000 rubles.

“The Moscow pedagogical community is the largest in Russia. In the capital’s schools, 54 thousand teachers work, educating and nurturing over 1.1 million students. Happy holiday, dear teachers! Your noble work is forever in the hearts of your students. May inspiration never run dry, and may each day bring new successes,” wrote Sergey Sobyanin on his channel on

Moscow teachers: professionalism, innovation, love for children

The city has a system of continuous professional development for teachers, which includes training, advanced training, mentorship, and services for self-improvement. Support for teachers is provided by the Corporate University of Moscow Education.

Based on the assessment of professional skills, an individual development plan is created for each teacher. Thus, in 2025, more than seven thousand such programs were developed.

The mentoring system is improving. In the specialized city database created last year, there are 3.7 thousand mentors working in 495 schools. They provide young colleagues with personalized development recommendations and offer them support.

Great attention is paid to the professional development of teaching staff. In 2025, more than 60 thousand people completed the relevant programs.

Convenient and useful digital services for teachers have been created in the “Moscow Electronic School” (“MES”). More advanced electronic counterparts have replaced paper journals and diaries. Thanks to this, grades, assignments, and other necessary information are available in digital format in real time. Teachers no longer have to duplicate entries—filling out both their own journals and students’ diaries by hand. In addition, MES has launched an intelligent AI-based chatbot that helps teachers save time. It assists teachers in lesson planning, prepares summaries, and generates test assignments in accordance with federal educational standards.

Another tool for improving the educational process is the lesson builder “Assemble the Lesson.” With its help, you can quickly and methodically create your own scenarios from ready-made tasks and materials for students from first to eleventh grade. The teacher does not need to develop a lesson plan from scratch.

To enhance the prestige of teaching work and develop the staffing potential of schools, the capital holds professional skill competitions. One of them is the Moscow City Professional Contest of Pedagogical Excellence and Public Recognition “Teachers of the Year of Moscow.” Among the nominations for 2026 are “Teacher of the Year of Moscow,” “Educator of the Year of Moscow,” “Educational Psychologist of the Year of Moscow,” “Special Education Teacher of the Year of Moscow,” “I Give My Heart to Children,” and “Pedagogical Start.”

A new feature this year was a special nomination named after Gennady Starunov, dedicated to a teacher who taught the basics of life safety at the school in the Southeast named after Marshal V.I. Chuikov. In 2022, he won the nomination “Teacher of the Year of Moscow” and became a laureate of the All-Russian contest “Teacher of the Year of Russia.” That same year, Gennady Starunov went to the special military operation (SMO). In 2025, he heroically died in the combat zone while fulfilling his military duty. In the nomination named after him, the organizing committee selects the best among those who made a special contribution to military-patriotic education, support for the SMO, and the new regions of Russia.

A total of about 2.5 thousand teachers from Moscow schools participated in the “Teachers of the Year in Moscow” contest in 2026, of which more than a thousand were young specialists with up to five years of work experience.

The interdisciplinary competition “Moscow Teacher” is held annually. In 2025, more than 21 thousand educators participated. In the final round, 750 people competed, of whom 25 became winners and 50 were prize-winners. All of them earned the right to make their mark in the main professional contest “Teachers of the Year of Moscow.”

Numerous bonuses, rewards, and grants are paid to metropolitan teachers to encourage effective and productive work. This includes a city bonus of up to 15 thousand rubles for active participation in the development of the “Moscow Electronic School” project, a monthly city reward of 12.5 thousand rubles for performing class teacher duties (the bonus for class supervision changes proportionally to the number of children), and a federal monthly cash reward for class supervision paid in the amount of five thousand rubles.

Teachers receive one-time payments for successfully preparing students for the Unified State Exam (EGE). In 2026, the maximum bonus amount was 150,000 rubles. The size of the monetary reward was determined by the contribution to the exam results of each 11th-grade graduate. This contribution was assessed in three categories:

— “For positive dynamics” — for two subjects: Russian language and mathematics (basic level) — positive progress in graduates’ results was taken into account compared to their results in the main state exam (OGE) at the end of the ninth grade in the respective subject. A total of 1,870 teachers were rewarded, of whom 574 received the maximum payment;

— “For high achievements” — for elective subjects — the results of graduates within the top 20 percent of the city’s best results were considered. A total of 3,922 teachers were rewarded, of which 505 received the maximum payment;

– “For Educational Breakthrough” – for elective subjects – a significant leap in results during high school was taken into account. 402 teachers were awarded.

At the same time, teachers could apply for payment in one or several categories. In total, almost nine thousand teachers received awards, including 2.4 thousand people who received the maximum amount.

In the capital’s education system, pre-professional education projects are implemented: engineering, medical, IT, entrepreneurial, media, and psychological-pedagogical classes.

“I also work in one of such classes: with the third grade not for the first year. And I understand how much the city has done to ensure that this system works and produces results. Everything is wonderful. And I believe that we will continue to work so that our city is filled with kind, talented, young professionals,” noted Ekaterina Preina, Russian language and literature teacher at Izmaylovskaya School No. 1508.

In 2023, grants from the Mayor of Moscow for the development of pre-professional education were established with a total annual amount of 500 million rubles. Based on the results of the 2025/2026 academic year, 192 schools with the best results received funding ranging from one to 10 million rubles. Educational institutions can use the funds to reward teachers of pre-professional classes as well as for their professional development. Additionally, such an award is given to the authors of educational content in the library of the “Moscow Electronic School,” which contains over 1.8 million units of materials prepared by teachers, domestic developer companies, and leading publishers. Since 2017, the developers of “MESh” content have received more than 8,800 grants.

Since 2011, more than 750 schools and kindergartens have been built in the capital. In addition, Government of Moscow is implementing the “My School” program — an unprecedented large-scale project to renovate existing educational institutions. In 2024–2026, 155 buildings were renovated. Another 85 are planned to be renovated next year. In addition, the plans include the construction of 11 schools of the future, two of which are already under construction.

The most important result of a teacher’s work is the increase in students’ knowledge levels. This is clearly demonstrated by the results of the unified and main state exams.

According to the results of the Unified State Exam this year compared to the previous academic year, the number of graduates who scored 300 points in three subjects increased eightfold (36 people), those who scored 200 points in two subjects doubled (359 people). The number of 100-point results also doubled—to 3,231.

According to the results of the OGE in 2026, the number of students who received “excellent” marks in all four exams increased 1.7 times compared to 2025 — up to 12.7 thousand people. The number of ninth-graders who scored at least a four in all exams (excluding excellence students) increased by 14 percent — up to 37.5 thousand people.

Moscow firmly holds leading positions in the All-Russian Schoolchildren’s Olympiad — it accounts for 47 percent of the total number of winner and prizewinner diplomas, including more than 48 percent of the winners. This year, at the final stage, schoolchildren won 1,972 diplomas, which is an absolute record for the entire history of the country’s main intellectual competition for students. Winners and prizewinners came from 275 Moscow schools.

As a result of the last olympiad season, Muscovites brought 28 medals to the Russian national team from official international olympiads: 22 gold, five silver, and one bronze. Moscow accounted for a record 64 percent of all the Russian team’s awards.

Another 23 medals, including 14 gold, were won by Muscovites at other prestigious international intellectual competitions. The great credit for these achievements belongs to Moscow teachers — the best educators in the country.

“A teacher always plays a significant role in every person’s life. And all of us, after many years, remember the teacher who gave us a launch into life. Congratulations on the well-deserved awards,” concluded Sergey Sobyanin.
