The most modern electric buses of Mosgortrans have started operating on the 24-hour route B along the outer side of the Garden Ring. This was reported by the Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Transport and Industry. Maxim Liksutov.

“By the order of Sergey Sobyanin, we continue to replace buses with eco-friendly transport. Electric buses have a positive impact on the environment and increase travel comfort for residents of all districts of the capital. On the 24-hour Route B on weekdays, 23 innovative vehicles of Russian production will operate,” added Maxim Liksutov.

Innovative vehicles stop at medical, educational, and cultural institutions. The eco-friendly route covers as many as 10 districts of the Central Administrative Okrug and 23 metro stations and Moscow Central Diameter.

Innovative A5 generation electric buses for the 2026 delivery have started operating on a new route thanks to the installation of ultra-fast charging stations at the “Presnya” operational site.

Eco-friendly transport

Since 2018, innovative electric-powered vehicles have been arriving in the capital. Today, the network of ground electric transport covers all districts of Moscow. Electric buses are characterized by smooth rides, the absence of noise and vibrations, making trips even more comfortable. The main advantage of this transport is the lack of negative impact on the city’s environment.

On weekdays, passengers make on average more than 1.2 million trips on them, and since 2018 their total number has exceeded 1.1 billion.

New deliveries of equipment and the development of charging infrastructure will allow the creation of more electric bus routes in Moscow. The order for the production of modern vehicles for the capital supports employment in the regions and stimulates the development of domestic industry.

Electric transport meets the standards of Moscow transport and provides a high level of service. Low-floor electric buses are fully adapted for passengers with limited mobility. They are equipped with fold-out ramps and driver call buttons. If necessary, the driver will assist passengers in entering and exiting the vehicle.

Bicycles, strollers, and large luggage can be placed on the accumulation platform. USB ports are provided for charging gadgets, and media screens display current information about nearby stops and possible transfers.

The climate control system allows maintaining an optimal temperature inside the car cabin at any time of the year. An air curtain, which activates when the doors are opened, helps to preserve the temperature.

The electric buses have buttons for targeted door opening. For passenger safety, the vehicles are equipped with external and internal video cameras. Near the doors are digital validators, which allow convenient payment for the ride.

Since 2022, vehicles with improved configurations have been delivered to the capital. Adaptive lighting in such electric buses changes from a cool shade to a warm one at 14:00. The front route indicator has been increased by 18 percent, making the number visible from a distance. The electric heater does not negatively affect the environment and maintains an optimal temperature. The range has increased from 40–50 to 80–90 kilometers, while the vehicle’s weight has remained the same.

Today, electric buses operate at 13 Mosgortrans sites. Moscow was the first in Russia to start building modern depots for such transport. In 2022, the first electric bus depot in Russia and the largest in Europe, “Krasnaya Pakhra,” opened in the Troitsky and Novomoskovsky Administrative Okrugs (TiNAO). The buses started running routes within TiNAO. A year later, the “Mitino” depot was built in the northwest of the capital. After its opening, electric buses began operating on routes in 20 districts of Moscow and two nearby cities in the Moscow region. At the end of 2023, the third innovative depot, “Saltykovka,” opened, serving routes in the east.

In 2025, next-generation electric buses KamAZ-52222 were put into service. Thanks to the redesigned layout, the storage area increased by 15 percent. The interior now includes spaces for hand luggage, and the door design has changed. The climate system has become more efficient, and LED strips indicating door opening and closing have been installed on the doors. The exterior of the vehicles now better aligns with modern trends in global industrial design. Next-generation electric buses are created based on the operational experience of earlier models and passenger feedback. Since entering service, the vehicles have driven over 10 million kilometers and have proven themselves well. This equipment is maintained at 10 Mosgortrans facilities.

According to data from MosEcoMonitoring of the capital Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection, thanks to the replacement of buses with electric buses in 2018–2025, Moscow was able to avoid the emission of about 1.3 thousand tons of pollutants and 300 thousand tons of carbon dioxide — the equivalent of greenhouse gases — into the atmosphere. In 2025 alone, nearly 380 tons of pollutants and 110 thousand tons of carbon dioxide were kept out of the air due to environmentally friendly transportation.
