A festive evening dedicated to the 130th anniversary of the founding of the Russian University of Transport (RUT) was held at the Moscow State Tchaikovsky Conservatory. The RUT team was congratulated on the anniversary by Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko and Minister of Transport Andrey Nikitin.
The Deputy Prime Minister read out greetings from the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin. In it, the head of state noted that the university played a huge role in the development of the domestic transport system, in strengthening the economic and technological potential of the country. “Its history is inextricably linked with the names of outstanding scientists and teachers, true innovators and activists, with the labor achievements of graduates who built the Trans-Siberian Railway, Turkestan–Siberian Railway, and the Baikal–Amur Mainline, participated in the development of Siberia, the Far East, the Arctic, and during the Great Patriotic War made an enormous contribution to the defeat of the enemy,” President Vladimir Putin noted.
Dmitry Chernyshenko joined the words of the head of state and congratulated the university staff on the anniversary.
“The Russian University of Transport rightfully stands as the flagship of our education system. It is the backbone of the entire personnel training for the transport system of our country. You set standards and prepare the best specialists in the industry. Huge gratitude to the faculty and teaching staff. I wish you health, success, and good students,” said the Deputy Prime Minister.
The Deputy Prime Minister presented state awards to representatives of the Russian University of Transport. By the Presidential decree, for merits in scientific and pedagogical activities, training qualified specialists, and many years of conscientious work, Alexander Vygnanov, advisor to the rectorate of the Russian University of Transport, was awarded the Order of Alexander Nevsky. For achievements in training highly qualified specialists, scientific and pedagogical activities, and many years of conscientious work, the Order of Friendship was awarded to the First Vice-Rector of the Russian University of Transport, Roman Volkov, and the Head of the Department, Leonid Baranov.
Andrey Nikitin read out the congratulatory message on the anniversary of RUT from the Chairman of the Government of the Russian Federation, Mikhail Mishustin. “Today, the university is one of the largest transport universities in the country, recognized as a leader in many fields of study. It combines traditions and innovation, long-standing scientific schools and modern educational technologies, the development of new types of equipment, automatic control systems for the movement of trains and ships, as well as the construction and operation of high-speed highways,” the message states.
The head of the Ministry of Transport, Andrey Nikitin, noted the university’s contribution to the country’s technological sovereignty.
“The university is working ahead of the curve: opening new laboratories, implementing digital services, and setting standards for the transport of the future.
RUT prepares professional personnel for the first high-speed railway Moscow – St. Petersburg. The 10 prize places of RUT students at the recent high-tech championship in Veliky Novgorod are the best confirmation of the worthy level of training,” he concluded.
It should be noted that at the end of the 19th century, the university was established as the Imperial Engineering School, and over the years it has become a leading sectoral university. Generations of talented graduates—scientists, engineers, designers—have laid the foundation of Russia’s transport system and continue its development. Over 130 years of operation, the university has trained and graduated more than 300,000 specialists for the transport industry. The research of the university’s scientists and the achievements of its graduates are recognized by the professional community both in Russia and on the international stage. Moreover, the students’ successes are noted not only in academics and science but also in creative and sports life: victories in prestigious competitions and contests are an important part of the university’s reputation.
Within the university walls, future specialists not only absorb the experience of outstanding scientists but also actively engage in research work – including in the industry innovation center. Here, young people master relevant engineering competencies that are extremely necessary for the development of the country’s transportation system.
