In the southwest of the capital, specialists urban infrastructure complex rehabilitated the Lower Afoninsky Pond. This was reported by the Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Housing, Utilities and Improvement Pyotr Biryukov.
“The pond in the Zyuzino area was in unsatisfactory condition: large volumes of silt had accumulated on the bottom, which reduced the depth and caused algal blooms, and the shoreline was deteriorating. Because of this, it was decided to carry out a comprehensive rehabilitation, and at present, the work has been completed in full,” noted Petr Biryukov.
A 1.1-hectare reservoir was cleared of silt, the shoreline was repaired, and bioplato zones were established.
Two thousand cubic meters of silt deposits were removed from the pond. This allowed the necessary depth to be restored and minimized overgrowth. Then the shoreline strips over a length of more than 383 meters were renewed and new gentle slopes were made. Clay, sand, granite gravel, and crushed stone were used to reinforce the banks. The lower part of the bank was strengthened by driving a new row of larch piles and forming a support of granite crushed stone in some underwater sections.
At the final stage, two bioplato zones with a total area of over 300 square meters were arranged here. Aquatic plants will be planted in them.
Specialists regularly inspect the capital’s water bodies and decide on rehabilitation when problems are identified. The list of water bodies is compiled annually taking into account the preferences of Muscovites.
