Moscow musical and theatrical groups continue to introduce foreign audiences to Russia’s creative heritage. Since the fall of 2025, they have performed in about 20 countries, including Brazil, India, Cuba, Vietnam, Belarus, and Kazakhstan.
“Moscow theaters, concert groups, and orchestras have toured more than 80 cities in Russia and around the world over the past year. The program brought together about 20 countries. In total, the capital’s artists traveled over 250,000 kilometers — they presented their productions and performed concerts in countries of Latin America, Southeast Asia, the Caribbean, and others,” said the Minister of the Moscow Government, head of the city’s Department of Culture.
Institutions subordinate to the capital Department of Culture, significantly expanded the geography of their performances. In just one year, Moscow artists presented Russian art in more than 80 cities in Russia and abroad. The tour route covered countries in Asia, North Africa, and Latin America — from India, Brazil, and Cuba to Tunisia and Belarus, as well as dozens of Russian regions — from Kaliningrad and Krasnoyarsk to Arkhangelsk and Salekhard.
From India to Cuba: how Moscow ensembles represented Russia abroad
International tours remain one of the key directions of Moscow’s international cultural cooperation. This season, the city’s ensembles presented Russian musical, theatrical, and choreographic art at prestigious festivals and concert venues, introducing foreign audiences to both classical repertoire and contemporary productions.
Thus, the “Turetsky Choir” performed in India as well as in Mogilev. The Moscow State Symphony Orchestra held a series of concerts in Minsk. One of the largest projects was the Latin American tour of the Moscow Jazz Orchestra under the direction of People’s Artist of Russia Igor Butman. The ensemble performed for the first time in Cuba and Nicaragua, and gave concerts in Brazil. For each country, the musicians prepared special programs, including elements of local musical culture and joint numbers with foreign artists.
The Ballet Theatre of Classical Choreography of Mosconcert presented Russian performing arts in South Korea, Lebanon, the United Arab Emirates, and Thailand. The Moscow State Academic Dance Theatre “Gzhel” represented Russia at the IV International Festival of National Dance “Dance Unites Us” in Dushanbe. On the stage of the Tajik State Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre, the ensemble performed choreographic compositions “Virtuosos”, “Barynya”, and “Kamarinskaya”, participating in the opening and closing ceremonies of the event.
Moscow theaters also took part in major international theater festivals. The State Academic Mossovet Theater presented the play “Tartuffe” in Tunisia and Turkish Adana. The Theater “School of Dramatic Art” performed “Dearie” and “White Nights” in Tunisia, and also held master classes in Tunisia and China’s Sichuan. The actors of the Vladimir Mayakovsky Theater performed the play “Herman plus Marta” at the International Black Sea Theater Festival in Trabzon.
During their international tours, the capital’s ensembles covered more than 150 thousand kilometers in total.
From Kaliningrad and Krasnoyarsk to Donbass and Arkhangelsk
The touring life within the country was no less intense. Moscow theaters, orchestras, choirs, and dance ensembles took part in federal programs, major festivals, and special cultural projects in the largest cities of Russia, as well as in border and new regions.
The Gzhel Dance Theater, as part of the federal program “We are Russia,” performed in 10 cities in the northwest of the country — from Arkhangelsk to Kaliningrad. In six of these cities, the troupe presented their programs for the first time.
Artists of the Moscow State Symphony Orchestra went on a concert tour of the Urals, performing concerts in Yekaterinburg, Chelyabinsk, and Magnitogorsk, and then performed in Saint Petersburg.
The Moscow Jazz Orchestra, led by People’s Artist of Russia Igor Butman, performed concerts in Krasnoyarsk, Sortavala, Tver, Rostov Veliky, Sirius, and Saint Petersburg, where it participated in the III Saint Petersburg International Jazz Festival. The ensemble also presented the premiere of the musical-literary performance “Leonid Utyosov. Thank you, heart!” featuring People’s Artist of Russia Sergey Stepanchanko.
The Moscow State Academic Chamber Choir under the direction of Vladimir Minin conducted a touring performance of Gioachino Rossini’s composition “Petite messe solennelle,” performing in Vladimir, Ivanovo, Kostroma, and Rybinsk, and then in the Tver Region and Veliky Novgorod. The “Turetsky Choir” ensemble visited Astrakhan, Tyumen, Obninsk, and Odintsovo.
Artists of Mosconcert conducted a major tour in Crimea, giving concerts in Sevastopol, Simferopol, and Kerch in March 2026 for the Day of the Reunification of Crimea and Sevastopol with Russia. They repeatedly traveled to the Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR) to congratulate military personnel on Defender of the Fatherland Day and Victory Day. For the fourth consecutive year, they held a large concert for the day of the liberation of Mariupol. Recently, another trip of the cultural brigade to the DPR concluded.
The capital’s theaters presented their best productions at the largest festivals in the country. The Moscow Drama Theater named after A.S. Pushkin showcased the plays “Servant of Two Masters,” “Zoyka’s Apartment,” and “Loving Shakespeare” in Kaliningrad and Kazan. Oleg Tabakov Theater participated in festivals in Saratov, Salekhard, and Saint Petersburg with productions of “Matrosskaya Tishina,” “Heirs,” and “Not on the List.”
The Moscow Youth Theater presented the plays “Marriage Italian Style” and “The Road” in Saint Petersburg and Sevastopol, while the “Pyotr Fomenko Workshop” staged “About Love (Five Pudov of Love, 22 Misfortunes, 33 Hysterics)” and “The Seagull” in Sochi, Omsk, and Yaroslavl.
Touring in new regions and border areas took a special place. For example, Kuklachev Cat Theatre presented the program “Kotoboom” in Dolzhansk, Alchevsk, Donetsk, and Luhansk. The Satire Theatre showed the premiere play “Old Men Are Not a Gift” in Luhansk and Donetsk. The Mossovet Theatre performed in Kursk with the charitable musical-drama composition “This Is Also My Victory,” and the Sovremennik Theatre came to the Kursk region for the first time with the production “The Marriage of Balzaminov.” The Vedogon Theatre, Oleg Tabakov Theatre, and the Performing Arts Center on Dobryninskaya also presented their plays to the residents of border territories.
