The State University of Management congratulates all citizens of Russia on World Tourism Day, a holiday embodying the idea of travel as an integral part of modern society’s life.
Crossing the borders of states and continents, humanity is learning to see the world in a new way, to appreciate its cultural heritage, and to protect the wonders of nature.
World Tourism Day was established by the General Assembly of the World Tourism Organization in 1979 to raise awareness about tourism, share cultural experiences, and establish international relations. In our country, this holiday has been celebrated since 1983.
Today in Russia, according to the Ministry of Economic Development of the Russian Federation, the tourism sector continues to actively develop, the growth persists, and its pace has only slightly slowed down. The tourist flow at the end of last year amounted to just over 92 million people, which is 2 million more than the previous year.
The leaders in the number of incoming tourists were Moscow and the Moscow region, visited by over 19 million people, while the southern regions of Russia hosted nearly 16 million tourists. As in the previous year, the majority of tourist trips within our country were made by Russians – 93.7%, with foreigners accounting for 6.3%.
Last year, Russian citizens made 29.75 million trips abroad, which is 8.8% more than in 2024. Vietnam became the most popular destination, with tourists traditionally traveling to Turkey, Egypt, the UAE, and Thailand, while interest in Tunisia and Indonesia sharply increased. Among the countries that lost popularity were Cuba, Sri Lanka, Qatar, and Venezuela.
An interesting fact is that instead of purchasing tours, citizens of our country are increasingly choosing to travel on personal automobiles. It is expected that by 2030 the share of trips by car will reach 42%.
The data clearly emphasizes the significance of the tourism industry for the country’s economy: according to preliminary estimates by the Ministry of Economic Development, the share of tourism in GDP in 2025 reached 3.1%, amounting to an impressive 6.2 trillion rubles.
Besides the numbers, this statistics shows the direct and indirect influence the tourism sector has on people’s lives: in holiday planning, annual expenses, the time parents spend with their children, the opportunity to see the world themselves and to show it to the younger generation.
The State University of Management, on behalf of its own Department of Management in International Business and Tourism Industry, as well as on behalf of the expeditionary corps of SUM, congratulates all members of the professional community of the tourism sector and wishes tourism enthusiasts many new interesting routes!
May the journey definitely take place, regardless of the weather and budget, always in an atmosphere of relaxation and good spirits!
