Surface transport started moving faster at the border of the Northern and North-Western Administrative Districts. On September 26, new dedicated lanes were introduced at the intersection of Leningradskoye and Volokolamskoye Highways. Thirteen bus and electric bus routes pass through here, including main and night routes.
“By the instruction of Sergey Sobyanin, special attention is being paid to the development of infrastructure to prioritize ground urban transport. On September 26, new sections of dedicated lanes appeared at the intersection of major highways in the Northern Administrative District of the capital. Buses and electric buses will be able to pass these segments much faster. The changes will not affect the speed of other vehicles. In addition, dedicated lanes reduce the risk of road traffic accidents by approximately 25 percent,” said the Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Transport and Industry.
Two dedicated lanes will appear at the intersection of Leningradskoye and Volokolamskoye Highways
The total length of the sections has reached almost 0.5 kilometers. Thanks to dedicated lanes on routes No. 905, 88, 356, 370, 403, 306, 412, as well as C372, M1, E30, E30K, H1, and H12, travel time has been reduced by two to three times. On weekdays, more than 115,000 trips are made on them.
New dedicated lanes are the result of joint work by the State Public Institution “Transport Organizer” and the Traffic Management Center.
Now on the Volokolamskoye Highway service road, the travel time for buses and trolleybuses has been halved — from seven to three and a half minutes. On the exit from Leningradskoye Highway to the Volokolamskoye Highway service road, surface transport passes the section three times faster — in five minutes instead of 17.
Dedicated lanes remain a reliable tool for creating a comfortable environment for ground urban transport movement. They reduce travel time for buses and electric buses on average by two to four times. Trips on ground transport become safer and also provide priority to urban transport, thereby reducing waiting time at stops. In addition, dedicated lanes allow optimizing transport operations and effectively allocating rolling stock among routes.
