On September 30, the 85th anniversary of the beginning of the Battle of Moscow — one of the key battles of the Great Patriotic War — is observed. On the eve of this memorable date, the capital Department of Territorial Executive Authorities talked about the “Heroes and Feats” museum in the Golyanovo district. It is part of the museum complex of the autonomous non-profit organization “Center for Civic and Patriotic Education of Youth ‘Rubezh’ named after A.V. Pivovarov,” operating on the basis of school No. 1598. The museum was established in 2023 on the initiative of the center’s general director, public advisor Oleg Okopny.
“In the exhibition space, one can see exhibits related to different generations of defenders of the Motherland — from the Great Patriotic War to the present day. The servicemen themselves and their families donate personal items and other objects from the front line, military awards, and uniforms for the exhibition,” she noted
Marina Prozorova, Deputy Head of the Department of Territorial Executive Authorities of Moscow.
In memory of the defenders
Among the exhibits from the Great Patriotic War period in the museum is a propeller from a MiG-3 fighter, which was raised from the bottom of the Stryana River in the Smolensk region. Along with it, an engine, fragments of the fuselage, an instrument panel, landing gear, and parts of the armament were brought to the surface. The wreckage of the plane lay at a depth of seven meters for almost 80 years.
There is also an interactive bunker here, where guests can hold samples of weapons from the Great Patriotic War and print a combat order. In addition, layouts of machine guns, small arms and aviation weapons, and mortars are presented. Each comes with a description and technical specifications.
The belongings of participants in the special military operation (SMO) are stored nearby. The first exhibits of the museum were military uniform and other personal items of Alexei Pivovarov, posthumously awarded the Order of Courage. They were donated by his mother.
In August 2022, Alexey Pivovarov voluntarily went to the combat zone. In October of the same year, under intense artillery fire, he covered his comrades in arms — he killed five militants and disabled an enemy armored vehicle, but sustained multiple shrapnel wounds incompatible with life.
A centre was established at the school where Alexey Pivovarov studied. Today, it bears the hero’s name. More than 90 events have already been held at the centre: lessons in courage, literary competitions, events dedicated to memorable dates, excursions for students, meetings, and lectures involving the families of servicemen.
The museum’s collection continued to be supplemented with items related to defenders of the Fatherland from different generations. Among the exhibits is the helmet of war correspondent and blogger Vladlen Tatarsky. Since 2014, he covered events in Donbass and reported on the special military operation. Vladlen Tatarsky died on April 2, 2023.
The museum complex also includes the museum of the club of honored military pilots, test pilots, and navigators, the museum of combat glory of the defenders of the Fatherland, the museum of combat glory of the 380th Oryol Red Banner Orders of Suvorov and Kutuzov II degree Rifle Division, the local history museum of the Golyanovo district, and the museum of naval aviation.
