On the eve of World Tourism Day, celebrated on September 27, the “Moscow Longevity” project presented updated travel formats around the capital and the Moscow region.

“River cruises, bus tours, and walking routes are not only exciting leisure activities, but also an opportunity to make interesting acquaintances, broaden horizons, and take a new look at familiar places. According to the latest survey, 89 percent of participants in the ‘Travel Through Life with Moscow Longevity’ program start to travel more to various places on their own — with family and friends — after our excursions. This autumn season, we have expanded the geography of bus routes to 40 destinations, launched daily river cruises on all-season yachts of the ‘Radisson Royal’ fleet, and updated the ‘Walking Lecture Series’. Each participant can choose the format they like,” said the Deputy Head of the Department of Labor and Social Protection of the Population of the City of Moscow.

Vladimir Filippov.

Comfortable river cruises

Starting October 1, project participants are invited to river cruises on all-season yachts. The panoramic glazing of the ships will allow older Muscovites to comfortably enjoy the capital’s landmarks regardless of the weather. The cruises will be held twice a day from the Gorky Park Pier — 1 along a special autumn route called “Heart of the Capital.” On Friday departures at 3:00 PM, special guests will include musicians, actors, and experts from various fields.

Together with the older generation of Muscovites, the People’s Artists Sergey Shakurov, Emmanuil Vitorgan, Svetlana Nemolyaeva, and Alexander Mikhailov have already participated in the river cruises.

Buses to new locations

Another change in the autumn season was the expansion of the geography of bus routes. New directions in the Moscow region include the Boblovo museum-estate, where Dmitry Mendeleev conducted agricultural research at the turn of the 18th–19th centuries, and the D.I. Mendeleev and A.A. Blok museum-reserve — the Shakhmatovo estate. Alexander Blok called this place a “corner of paradise,” where historical buildings and the surrounding landscape have been recreated.

In the capital, for participants of the “Moscow Longevity” project, a bus tour to the Kolomenskoye Museum-Reserve has been prepared, as well as a route to VDNKh with a visit to the Museum of Slavic Writing “Slovo”. In total, the bus travel program includes 40 different directions: sightseeing and thematic excursions, manor museums, reserves, monasteries, plants, and factories.

Among the most popular are morning and evening sightseeing tours, as well as thematic routes, including “The House Moved,” “Mystical Legends of Moscow,” “Literary Moscow. Bulgakov,” and “Stalin’s Skyscrapers. Stories and Legends.”

Walking tours of the capital

The “Walking Lecture” series will also be supplemented with new directions and attractions. This season, participants of “Moscow Longevity” will not only walk through the central streets and popular parks of the capital, but also get acquainted with the architectural features of new districts, learn the history of industrial enterprises, and follow favorite routes.

Hundreds of groups operate for city residents in most districts of the capital. Depending on interest, you can choose walks with a historical, biographical, architectural, or cultural focus. Among the guides of the project are historians, cultural experts, journalists, and other specialists.

Corporate river cruises

A new direction in the “Travel Through Life with ‘Moscow Longevity'” program has become corporate river cruises for employees of partner organizations of the project — older Moscow residents. Such trips have already taken place for the teams of VDNKh, Sberbank, Russian Railways (RZhD), the Union of Theatre Workers of the Russian Federation, the Dynamo football club, and veterans’ organizations. During the river cruises, guests can socialize in a comfortable atmosphere, have an enjoyable time, and learn more about the programs of the ‘Moscow Longevity’ project.

High rating by participants

Travel is most popular among project participants aged 61–65 — this is the largest group among those who choose excursions as leisure activities. They accounted for more than 30 percent. In addition, there are many travel enthusiasts among Muscovites aged 55–60 (28 percent) and 66–70 (26 percent). Excursions are also joined by representatives of an even older age group: among the participants are people aged 71–75 (11 percent), as well as those who are over 80 years old.

The project “Travel Through Life with ‘Moscow Longevity'” consistently receives high marks from older Muscovites. According to a recent survey, 96 percent of excursion participants learned something new, 95 percent of travelers reported an improved mood after trips and walks, and 91 percent said they would recommend the routes they took to friends and acquaintances.

The program also helps to build social connections — 34 percent of respondents said they made new acquaintances while traveling. In addition, 91 percent of respondents gave the project “Travel through life with “Moscow Longevity”” the highest rating.
