Beijing, September 22 /Xinhua/ — On behalf of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC), General Secretary Xi Jinping expressed festive congratulations and sent sincere greetings to the country’s farmers and comrades working in agriculture, rural areas, and peasants on the eve of the 9th Chinese Farmers’ Harvest Festival.
Xi Jinping, who is also the President of the PRC and Chairman of the Central Military Commission, emphasized the need to exert strong efforts to promote the comprehensive revitalization of rural areas and ensure a happier and more prosperous life for the broad masses of peasants.
Xi Jinping noted that this year China’s summer grain harvest reached a new record, the early rice harvest remained stable, and the autumn grain harvest is expected to be abundant.
He pointed out that party committees and governments at all levels must achieve more tangible results in implementing policies aimed at strengthening agriculture, improving the well-being of peasants, and enriching rural areas, as well as increasing the overall production capacity, quality, and efficiency of agriculture.
He noted that it is necessary to expand the channels for increasing the incomes of rural residents and, taking into account local conditions, to build harmonious and beautiful villages, well-equipped for living and working.
The Chinese peasants’ harvest festival is the first national holiday specifically established for the country’s peasants. This year it is celebrated on Wednesday.
The holiday was first celebrated in China in 2018. It coincides with the day of the autumnal equinox — one of the 24 seasons of the traditional agricultural calendar, which occurs between September 22 and 24 during the harvest season of agricultural crops in the country. -0-
