Volunteers in Moscow participate daily in city environmental campaigns, themed workshops, and also sort recyclable materials — collecting waste paper, plastic, and caps, and then bring them for recycling to the district centers’ bins. “Good Place”. Anyone interested can join the environmental initiative and choose an engaging event on the official website of the resource center “Mosvolonter”.
“Capital volunteers set an example that helps form useful eco-habits among city residents. Together with family, friends, and colleagues, they regularly engage in greening natural areas, clean riverbanks, and share in their social networks about the culture of conscious consumption and the rules of separate waste collection. Since the beginning of the year, Muscovites have brought more than 90 tons of waste paper and over 8.4 tons of caps and other plastics to ‘Good Places’,” said Alexander Levit, director of the resource center “Mosvolonter.”
Eco-help for the city
Environmental volunteering is one of the most popular areas among city helpers in the capital. No special training is required to participate. What is especially valuable is that events and workshops often take place outdoors among like-minded people. With the support of the resource center “Mosvolonter,” citizens invest their efforts in ecological changes, implement their own projects and initiatives, and help preserve nature.
On the website mosvolonter.ru Volunteers can choose to participate in autumn clean-up days in natural and protected areas of the capital, undergo free training, and register for environmental campaigns and master classes.
The eco-laboratory at the “Good Place. Kurkino” center regularly invites residents to learn about the full cycle of recycling secondary raw materials. Ordinary caps gain a new life and turn into themed souvenirs. Volunteers not only participate in a practical session, but also learn how plastic is transformed and why it is important to sort waste. The next meetings at the eco-laboratory will take place September 23, 10 and October 28.
The resource center “Mosvolonter” together with the eco-center “Sborska” offers to join every month pen sorting and other secondary raw materials. During the recycling museum tour, volunteers learn how to properly prepare various items for submission. The most active helpers receive points and are given souvenirs made from recycled materials.

Introduction to eco-volunteering
“Mosvolonter” helps to take the first steps in the environmental direction. Thematic events are held in capital city schools “Good Lessons”. Younger kids are told how they can contribute to protecting the environment. With high school students, they discuss the prospects for the development of environmental professions.
Free online course will help to learn about the features of the ecological direction of volunteering, choose a participation option, and prepare for the first action for beginners. Here, information about waste separation and ways to make your lifestyle more eco-friendly is presented. Volunteers are told about the specifics of assistance in natural areas and creating their own ecological projects.
In addition, “Mosvolonter” helps Moscow companies to develop an eco-culture within their teams. By choosing a service on the website “Kind Team”, partner organizations receive support in conducting corporate clean-up days, environmental workshops, and other thematic meetings.

A Good Habit
Tatyana Bysheva joined the team of city assistants four years ago while studying in college. Her first event was the International Charity Festival “White Cane.” It was there that the young woman realized that volunteering is not just help, but serious work and immense dedication.
“In 2024, I attended the international forum ‘Ecology of the Future’ for the first time, where I truly became interested in eco-volunteering. This field attracted me so much that for my diploma thesis I chose the topic ‘Volunteer Activities as a Means of Environmental Education for Primary School Students,’” shared Tatyana Bysheva.
A volunteer explained the benefits of an eco-friendly lifestyle to her family, and now they together separate recyclables and take them to collection boxes in the “Good Places” and to the “Sborska” eco-center at “Clean Ponds.” Tatiana Bysheva was greatly impressed by the master class on recycling plastic dispensers at this eco-center. It turned out that an ordinary liquid soap dispenser is much more complex than it seems. In her opinion, such practical lessons radically change the perception of familiar objects.
