At the Department of Construction Technology of Saint Petersburg State University of Architecture and Civil Engineering, a system of mirrors has been developed for natural lighting of rooms and inner courtyards of multi-storey buildings with insufficient insolation. A patent of the Russian Federation No. 2869703 dated February 26, 2026, has been obtained for the device.

The invention relates to the field of construction and architecture. The system is designed for lighting the inner courtyards and rooms of multi-storey buildings that form courtyard wells. Its design includes several levels of convex and flat mirrors, which are attached to the building facade using brackets.

To control the position of the mirrors, the device is equipped with actuators and trackers that monitor the position of the sun. This allows for adjusting the position of the system elements depending on the direction of sunlight.

The design also includes automatic cleaning of the mirror surface from snow and ice. Heating wires are built into the mirrors, and the temperature is controlled by a special sensor. When the air temperature drops below a set critical value, the heating system turns on automatically.

This solution allows for the operation of the mirror system in winter conditions, when snow and ice may form on its surface.

The inventors are a professor of the department of construction technology and a Doctor of Technical Sciences Yuri Kazakov and graduate student Maksim Titov.
