More than 14 thousand residents of the capital over the age of 90 became participants in the “Moscow Longevity» since the project began in 2018. The townspeople not only remain active but also find new hobbies — from chess to psychology.

In the “Moscow Longevity” project, the majority of participants traditionally range in age from 60 to 74 years. At the same time, the ranks of long-livers, who prove by their own example that age does not interfere with an active and fulfilling life, are only growing.

Their hobbies often change with age, a new pace of life, and opportunities. Younger people enjoy traveling: up to 73 percent of the audience on excursions are Muscovites up to 75 years old. Older participants are most often found in classes at Moscow Longevity Centers, they make up 25 percent of the audience.

Long-livers participate most actively in formats dedicated to live communication. They attend creative workshops and literary evenings at Moscow longevity centers (11.1 percent), as well as belong to interest clubs and go to concerts (10.9 percent). While younger participants of “Moscow Longevity” more often choose educational courses, older people focus specifically on communication and leisure activities together.

But different age groups also have something in common: their weekdays remain active and quite busy. For example, 93-year-old project participant Kim Komisarchik starts each day with morning exercises and regularly practices swimming and dancing. In the project, he found a team of like-minded people, formed a chess club, and twice a week with great pleasure introduces anyone interested to the basics of the game.

“Communication is the secret of my longevity. I meet with people, share my experience with them, and feel that I am being helpful. This brings great pleasure and, of course, prolongs life,” said Kim Komisarchik.

About 10 thousand tours were conducted for participants of the “Moscow Longevity” project this summer

Maintaining tone is helped not only by social activity but also by sports. Ninety-two-year-old Galina Martynova has been participating in the project since its inception and chooses various activities for comprehensive self-development. She attends “Longevity Workouts” at popular places in the capital, does morning exercises at her center, and regularly plays table tennis.

“I consider active and varied leisure as my secret to longevity. Since childhood, I have been involved in artistic gymnastics and now in the project I do not forget about physical exercise. It is especially important at an older age,” shared Galina Martynova.

Sports are far from the only hobby of the Muscovite. Just as much time in her schedule is devoted to cultural and intellectual leisure. The long-liver regularly attends literary club meetings in her center, goes to film screenings and concerts, and also never stops learning new things. This summer, Galina Martynova successfully completed a psychology course titled “The Art of Family Relationships” and does not intend to stop there.
