Nanchang, September 21 /Xinhua/ — The development of traditional Chinese medicine in Belarus has reached the state level, said Igor Brilevich, Deputy Chairman of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus, at the SCO Forum on Traditional Medicine 2026 in Nanchang (administrative center of Jiangxi province, Eastern China), highlighting Belarus’s achievements in this field.
As I. Brilevich emphasized, two medical specialties are officially approved in the country: reflexotherapy physician and traditional Chinese medicine physician. Belarusian doctors undergo training and internships directly in China, cooperating with major medical universities in Zhejiang Province, and the cities of Changchun and Tianjin. Specialists from the two countries regularly hold joint scientific and practical conferences, exchange experiences, which allows increasing the accessibility of innovations and high-tech assistance to citizens.
According to him, Belarus and China have similar approaches to medicine and national health. One of the priorities of the State Program for the Socio-Economic Development of the Republic of Belarus for 2026-2030, approved by the All-Belarusian People’s Assembly, is demographic security. The main message is that people should take care of their own health, and it is better to prevent illness than to treat it. Therefore, the role of traditional folk methods, including Chinese medicine, gains special importance. The delegation was convinced of the close integration of traditional Chinese and Western medicine in China, and such approaches are already being applied in Belarus.
Speaking about cooperation with China, he emphasized that collaboration in the field of traditional Chinese medicine is not limited to the line of ministries of health. Centers of traditional Chinese medicine have been established in Belarus, one of which is located in the China-Belarus Industrial Park “Great Stone”, and another is dynamically developing in the Brest Central City Hospital. Belarusian colleagues actively work with partners from Liaoning University of Traditional Chinese Medicine. During the visit to China, a number of bilateral meetings took place, the full spectrum of relations between the two countries was discussed, and preliminary agreements on economic cooperation were reached.
As noted by I. Brilevich, in recent years the cooperation between Belarus and China has reached an unprecedentedly high level, becoming an example of strategic partnership. One of the successful projects under the “Belt and Road” initiative is the Great Stone industrial park. The park is actively developing a cluster of medical products and biotechnology, with Chinese companies investing in the production of medical equipment, test systems, and pharmaceuticals.
“Our peoples are iron brothers: we are far apart in distance but close in spirit. We are ready to further deepen multilateral cooperation within the framework of the SCO,” concluded I. Brilevich.
The forum took place from September 16 to 18 in Nanchang. Representatives from 21 countries participated in the forum, including Russia and Belarus. During the event, there were three parallel thematic sessions, exhibitions of achievements in traditional medicine, and cultural events. Participants discussed issues of policy, standards, personnel training, and industrial cooperation, as well as shared experiences in integrating traditional and Western medicine. -0-
