On the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the President of the National Research Center “Kurchatov Institute” Mikhail Kovalchuk, Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University opened the exhibition “Picture of the World.”
The exhibition vividly and colorfully tells about the multifaceted activities of the honoree, clearly showing the stages of the formation of an outstanding scientist and authoritative organizer. If you trace the key milestones of Mikhail Kovalchuk’s biography — from studying at Leningrad State University and his first steps in science to leading large-scale national projects — a picture of an entire world truly emerges before the viewers, so comprehensive are the research interests, scientific pursuits, and educational initiatives of Mikhail Valentinovich.
“Today at the Research Building of Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University, a photo exhibition ‘Picture of the World’ opened, dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the president of the National Research Center ‘Kurchatov Institute,’ chairman of the Supervisory Board, and Honorary Doctor of our university, Hero of Labour of the Russian Federation Mikhail Valentinovich Kovalchuk, — said SPbPU rector Andrey Rudskoy. — We, the polytechnic community, sincerely congratulate our colleague and friend on a wonderful anniversary, an outstanding scientist and educator, a respected expert and organizer of science. The exhibition “Worldview” is our small contribution to popularizing the innovative ideas of this unique person, embodied in a number of priority areas of advanced high-tech science and industry, without which the technological leadership of our country today is unthinkable.
The exhibition was prepared by the SPbPU History Museum.
“We decided to name the exhibition ‘Worldview’ because that is exactly the name of the show that Mikhail Valentinovich hosts on television, — ‘Worldview with Mikhail Kovalchuk,’ — shared the director of the Museum of History of SPbPU, Valery Klimov. —Here are 22 posters showing all the scientific activities of Mikhail Valentinovich — from his student years to the present day.
Crystallography, synchrotron radiation, bioeconomics, nuclear medicine, international scientific projects “Megascience”, the creation of scientific megainstallations in Russia, the lunar nuclear power plant project “Selena”, nature-like technologies, an innovative education system, historical materials science—this is only part of the extensive activities of Mikhail Kovalchuk, presented at the “Picture of the World” exhibition at SPbPU.
