The Rosavtodor forces in the Chechen Republic have commissioned ahead of schedule a section of the federal highway R-217 “Caucasus” from the 644th to the 656th km. The major overhaul was carried out under the national project “Infrastructure for Life,” and the work was completed almost two months ahead of schedule. This was reported by Deputy Prime Minister Marat Khusnullin.
“The development of the road network is one of the conditions for improving people’s quality of life and economic growth. The R-217 ‘Caucasus’ highway connects the regions of the North Caucasus and provides access to the state border. We continue to systematically upgrade this highway, expand its capacity, and enhance traffic safety. On the section from the 644th to the 656th km in the Chechen Republic, a major renovation has been completed. The roadway was expanded from two to four lanes, increasing the section’s capacity to 35 thousand vehicles per day. The work was completed almost two months ahead of schedule. For drivers – fewer traffic jams, more comfortable and safer trips,” said Marat Khusnullin.
The Deputy Prime Minister added that the average daily traffic intensity on this section amounted to nearly 18,000 vehicles.
During the work, road workers replaced and extended two culverts, completed the construction of the earth bed and the base layer of the road structure made of a sand-gravel-crushed stone mixture, laid the upper base layer of coarse-grained asphalt concrete and the lower pavement layer. Along the entire stretch, they installed a reinforced concrete central barrier with reflective elements and anti-glare screens, constructed the top layer from crushed stone mastic asphalt concrete, installed new road signs, signal posts, edge barrier fencing, and applied horizontal markings with thermoplastic.
More than 30 workers and 16 pieces of equipment were involved in the project.
