As part of the investment project “Modernization of the Forging Plant: Phase II,” the Metal Cutting Building (MCB) received another batch of new equipment. We are talking about automatic metal cutting lines based on two disk cutoff machines (DCMs) for metal.

The KRM of the Forging Plant already has experience working with such equipment: the first delivery of three P-150 model disk cutting machines (workpiece diameter up to 150 mm) was back in 2014. In July 2019, the KRM was supplemented with two more disk cutting machines, bringing the total to five. The design capacity of the new lines based on the DOS reached 600,000 forged workpieces per year. KRM gained the ability to promptly process requests from production buildings, that is, without losing time cutting workpieces of different diameters, from 60 to 150 mm, and immediately sending them to Forging and Press Building No.1 (FPB-1) or to FPB-3. The new equipment began operating in three shifts and producing workpieces with precise geometric parameters, which significantly improved their quality and conditions for stamping operations.

The project has reached a new level: the KRM has received and is already operating at full capacity the latest automatic metal cutting lines based on disk metal cutting machines, but of a different model – F-200NC (billet diameter up to 200 mm) in a quantity of two units. The main advantage of the new equipment is a completely different level of productivity and automation.

“When choosing equipment, we focused on machines with a maximum cutting diameter of 200 mm. This decision was dictated by the need to saw the largest blanks for forging crankshafts and the front axle beam., – said Deputy Director of the Forge Plant for Development of Reengineering, Evgeny Arkhipov. – The system for unloading and stacking cut blanks here is unique; it was developed and manufactured according to a special technical assignment from the Forging Plant. The new cutting lines boast not only the size of the working area and power (maximum diameter 200 mm), but also their main feature—the full automation of both the metal rolling cutting process and the unloading and stacking of the cut blanks into containers.

“Unlike P-150 model machines, where the cut workpiece at the output is simply pushed to the right or left into the standing container by a pusher, the new lines are equipped with a special gantry manipulator that ensures not only the automatic lifting of the cut workpieces from the unloading zone but also the neat layer-by-layer stacking of the workpieces into the container according to the scheme.”, – explained Evgeny Arkhipov.

Cutting accuracy and automatic placement of billets will be critically important when operating the new forging line based on a press with a force of up to 14,000 tf, which will be installed at CPC-3 as part of the second stage of the forging plant reengineering program. The first equipment delivery from the manufacturer to Naberezhnye Chelny is expected already in the autumn. The main phase of the project is scheduled for 2027: the start of commissioning and putting the line’s equipment into operation.
