Xi’an, September 17 /Xinhua/ — The China-Central Asia international tourist train on the “Xi’an-Almaty” route, whose first trip was launched in 2025, is moving to the stage of regular operation. On Thursday, the next train will cross the border of China through the Khorgos checkpoint in the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region /Northwest China/ and proceed to Almaty, Kazakhstan.

This train travels west along the ancient thousand-year-old Silk Road, passes through the Hexi Corridor, crosses the Tian Shan mountains, connecting many picturesque places in northwestern China, especially beautiful in the autumn season, and allows tourists to enjoy the steppe landscapes of Kazakhstan.

It has become known that the route of this train takes a total of 15 days, operating on a model of individual tours for small groups, offering various types of carriages – four-berth, two-berth, and others, which spares tourists the inconveniences associated with multiple transfers and frequent luggage handling during long trips.

The train also features a “mobile cultural lounge of the Silk Road,” where tourists can explore various activities, including making products related to intangible cultural heritage, ethnic songs and dances, national musical instruments, as well as wellness practices of traditional Chinese medicine and more.

The Deputy General Director of Xi’an Overseas Tourist Co., Ltd., Feng Gaoxuan, said that at the end of October, the third international tourist train China-Central Asia of this year will be dispatched following the July and September trips. The route “Xi’an-Almaty” will be extended into a thorough tour of Kazakhstan – in addition to visiting Almaty, other cultural attractions will also be included.
